1) It was wrong of people to make fun of your relationship, if they did. I have not seen any such comments, so I will take your word for it.

2) If people have crossed the line and been offensive, have they been dealt with? Has anyone said anything to them? Has a different moderator clamped down on their conduct?

3) Melissa has a right to feel how she does. And her feelings are reality. But is leaving the .Org the proper response? If she feels that it is, then fine. More power to her. But what does that solve? Perhaps she could stay on and change some minds.

4) Speaking of solutions, what IS the point here? How to "fix" the .Org? Because it's too negative? On one hand, I see so much support for the COMMUNITY that the .Org proudly is. On the other hand, there is so much anti-negativity (Prince fans suck, what's new?). If we are going to hold to the fact that we're a COMMUNITY, then we need to acknowledge the reality of it. And that is that we're full of nasty negative motherfuckers. All this talk about how so-and-so wouldn't have the balls to say ___ in "real life." What about all the crazy "uber-positivity" spouting pseudospiritual psycho fucks? They'd be locked up if they walked down the street talking about "The One" and "The Dawn" and speaking in Princebonics.

Bottom line = the negative folks are just as much a part of the community as the positive. If the place is too negative for people, then leave. If it's too positive, then leave. The only 'right' thing to control is what sort of topics can be discussed, and who can start them. Is this the point when the GD forum bites its own ass off? That seems absurd to me. Look at the other 99.999% of .Orgers. They're still here. For whatever reason, people drop off every now and them. The community changes. But, as someone else said, the .Org is what the .Org is. I think the best way to deal with this shit is what rdhull proposed.

If not, then what is the point of this thread? What are we supposed to feel? Outrage? Well, have the 'offenders' been dealt with? Sadness? Why? It seems like there's a strong movement here to stomp on anyone that doesn't think that this is some HUUUGE deal. That's bullshit.

I want to add that we have to expect that not everyone here is going to be as "principled" as we'd like them to be. If there's a chance that people might get nasty about a "real life" fact about one's personal life, it's best just to not post the shit in the first place. That doesn't excuse people being nasty, but this is the truth of the matter. Leaving and stating the reason only gives people vindication.

i have missed her for some time, as she was one of the orgers i was closest too, and she told me her participation in this place was going to be a lot less a few months ago.

yeah, and why should we believe that? you've said the same thing several times, but here you remain.

i think the behavior i have seen on this site, and on the thread in question is some of the most childish behavior i have ever seen from adults.

no no no! it's not nice to judge polyamory. it hurts people's feelings. hmph!

RD's thread wasn't "locked on sight." I answered various questions posed in the thread before locking it (after 87 responses, I should mention).

As for this thread, if it bothers you, you're free not to read it. Besides, if I locked it, I'd be accused of stifling discussion that's critical of a moderator. wink
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.
