I've never heard of Bill Hicks! I'm a big comedy fan, so please point me in the right diection of what to buy in order to discover this recommened comedian smile

Aw man, you have got to get you some Bill Hicks, he was a man with a message. Sadly died in '94 of pancreatic cancer. Give me a few minmutes - I'll do a bit of searching and find some links for you (as is my duty as a fan-attic).

Cover me - I'm going in.

His official website :
www.billhicks.com
The site is great - you can download some video and audio clips.

He has 6 cd recordings :
http://www.comedycatalog.com/index.asp (and search for Bill Hicks)

The cd's are :
Arizona Bay, Rant in E Minor, Dangerous, Relentless, Live form Pittsburgh, and Love, Laughter a& Truth.

and various video/dvd recordings of shows. The best (imo) is Totally Bill Hicks - you get his last ever live performance, and the "It's just a ride" documentary.

Watch out for his purple-vein-dick jokes!

Purple Vein as in a parody of Purple Rain? That used to be my or name in '98! I like him already! I'll check out his best of in the new year biggrin Thanks for the tip!

No, not related to purple rain at all, he uses it when he's on one of his rants and interjects "don't worry, the purple vein dick jokes are coming", sorta thing.

He was very socially aware and he tackles all the issues (everything from globalisation, drugs and drug laws, abortion, sucking satan's cock, everything really), as I said he's a man with a message. But he does it brilliantly - a great mix of serious issues for you to think about delivered in a very rotflmao manner.

You'll love him (I hope!).

lol

Yes, a sad loss for us all. (:small rant: I detest Denis Leary for stealing Bill's style, and most of his jokes, and even morseso for being too stupid to do it properly. :endofrant:)

This sums Bill up quite nicely :

(from http://www.billhicks.com/bio.html)

At the age of 13 Bill Hicks did his first gig. Six weeks before his death, aged 32, he did the last. In the intervening years he frequently did over 250 gigs a year. He tried to reach as many people as possible, to put them in touch with inner and outer space in a majestic flight of one consciousness thinking. Those he inspired haven't lost the ability to take a ride.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Anxiety

Sandra Bernhard's "Without You I'm Nothing" is one of the funniest and smartest pieces of comedy I've ever heard. The first time I gave the CD version of this a spin (which I think is far funnier than the film, which is pretty damn funny itself), I was gasping for air after the first ten minutes.

Richard Pryor is the king.

Chris Rock has talent. He's smart, witty and bold. But only on a few occasions has he struck me as downright funny.

I personally think Chris Tucker is FAR funnier than Chris Rock, but unfortuantely he's focused on stupid movies more than his standup roots.

Best TV moment that you have been involved in?
“Probably something on 'The Word'. I enjoyed the MC Hammer interview, that was good fun”.

What happened?
"Well he was trying to change his image from twat Hammer to gangster and he was obviously just some rap charlatan. So I came on in all this Hammer gear and danced in front of him. He was really pissed off. Then every time I asked him a question, just before he answered it, I’d go “Stop. It’s hammer time”. Twice would have been funny, but we did it six or seven times in a row and he was fuming. So that was a fun one."

I've read that since he went to Africa he has a different stance..that he was not gonna clown anymore in his movies etc.

TV Burp is his greatest program, and his channel 4 series was really funny to. 'What are we going to do with a room full of genetically modified homosexual corn!'
