The Mother of all "Best of..." threads. Was it the 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's? If you take tv shows, music, and movies, treat them as one entity, what was the best decade in entertainment?
I'm torn between the 70s and 80s, but I'll have to say the 80s because of the better movies...the 60s music (Beatles, JB, Motown, etc.) still kicks ass, but tv was so corny back then. My final say is the 80s!!  I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired! | |

The 60's because of the Beatles.
The 70's because is was hella fun time... Hippies, drugs, free love, and the Maharishi.

the reighties were a vipd waste of time...even the drugs and getting high were vacant...didnt mean the same as in the 60's-70's

I missed the 60s, was too young to recall much of the 70s, experienced the 80s, and suffered the 90s.
With an admittedly limited view, on entertainment value alone I'd have to vote for the 80s... if for Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna's glory days alone (although I admit the Beatles are phenomenal). Add all those overly merchandised Saturday morning cartoons, Steven Speilberg and John Hughes films, the WWF, Cosby Show, rising popularity of hip hop, MTV and other cable TV channels, and heightened disposible income (At least in the U.S.) and the 80s take it by a landslide! same here..and I did..and did enjoy the eighties dont get me wrong--I just pine for the seventies because everything got so..big..in th e eighties..the mpovies, the music, the drugs...it was all like a fantasy...BUT! thank god for them becasue they wiped awayy the dreary raininess look and feel of the seventies...there is just someting that is forever endearing about plastic lining covering furniture "Climb in my fur." | |

TV Shows like The A Team, Knight Rider, Street Hawk, The Fall Guy, The Muppet Show Cartoons like Transformers, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Dogtanian, Danger Mouse and loads more Music like Prince, Madonna and MJ (when they were the shiznit!) and real bands with real instruments, oh and New Kids on The Block!

I also enjoyed what little I can recall of the 70s. It somehow had more "soul." As for the "look" of the 70s, you're right! It was wierd. Kind of a doomsday-meets-psychedelic/outer space vibe. For most people the answer to this question will ultimately be informed by whenever their "coming of age" era was. Most Prince fans here love the '80s because that was his most successful and most consistent decade (along with the fact that a lot of MJ and Madonna fans are on this site). Personally, I've always been the opposite of this. Although all my teen years were spent in the '80s, it wasn't my favorite decade for anything in the arts. I'm a '70s child, in more ways than one.
