"The Vanishing"

Not that bad remake but the truly haunting original Dutch
version. That was a serious shocker. I've only seen it
two times, the last time over 6 years ago and still, to
this day I am terrified to stop at restplaces along the
freeway abroad.

First movie I ever saw that made me scared to go out onto
the street again.

And it didn't even have any gore effects or gallons of
blood splashing about.

And perhaps the most extremely scary movie:

Audition from, I think 1999.

It's a Japanese movie, very very very extremely shocking.
A man sets up fake film audition to get himself a new
wife but the one he chooses has more than 1 skeleton in
her closet. The film's finale is simply sickening and if
you have the guts to watch it, make sure you have at
least a barfbag and a shower ready for you'll throw up
your last meal and shit will run along your legs.

Other quite scary films:

Duel [1971, Spielberg]

Les Diaboliques [1955, Clouzot]

Nosferatu [1922, Murnau]

Yeah, it was extremely disturbing I agree. Not something I think I could watch again.

'Don't Look Now' as mentioned above by HolyMoses certainly gives me the creeps. That frickin' dwarf!?!?! boxed

There was also this movie that was quite disgusting about
a kid who killed a lot of girls, as later turned out in
the garage of his home whilst his parents were away on
holiday.

He filmed the killings as they were bound to a chair and
then sold the tapes. Yuck. He'd cut off someone's hand &
let them take it in their mouth and hold it and stuff
like that.

I can't remember what it was called but it was SCARY!!!

I think it was italian or at least located in Italy. It
was also something about a guy filming or pretending to
make a documentary or something.

Anybody know which movie I mean?

It is Oodishon (2000) - This is a very good horror movie. It´s a mindblowing experience. Like "The Ring", "Dark Water", "Tetsuo" or other "absurd" masterpieces it really wakes you up to the horror of day to day reality. ...The chopping of the legs reminded me of another great scare film "Misery"

DudeDrops

Not in any serious order, these are my Top 10...

1. "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (original...although I give the remake props)
2. "Jacob's Ladder"
3. "Halloween"
4. "Eraserhead"
5. "Nosferatu" (1922 version)
6. "Videodrome"
7. "The Shining"
8. "The Exorcist"
9. "Salo" (not a 'horror' film per se, but DEFINITELY fucking scary)
10. "Dawn of the Dead"

Haystack

In no particular order...

1. La Cabineta (European short film about a man stuck in a telephone booth. Totally un-nerving! If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean.)
2. Night of the Living Dead (Original version)
3. Carnival Of Souls (ditto)
4. Ringu
5. Ghostwatch (UK TV, halloween 1992. Not really a movie, but extremely shit-your-pants scary.
6. Cannibal Holocaust (More disturbing than scary - definitely stays with you for quite some time.
7. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (seriously, when you see the Child Catcher when you're a child yourself...)
8. The Haunting (original, of course)
9. A Warning To The Curious (BBC, made for TV Ghost story movie from the early 70s. Absolutely terrifying)
10. Texas Chain Saw Massacre (original, of course)
