Hotel New Hampshire

A number of years ago driving the along the coast of Maine/New Hampshire I came across the abandoned Wentworth by the sea, a gigantic old resort hotel
Everything about this hotel fit John Irvings book, even location where it would be possible to run down to Hampden beach at night.
Does anyone know if John Irving ever talked about basing the hotel on a real one?

The hotel since I found it was bought and restored by Marriott

I read it in my teens and it was an absolutely amazing experience, that and Garp, everything that came later as well, maybe to a lesser degree because I was older reading them, but they are just amazing books

the one that changed my life was ciderhouse rules. my favorite book ever. i identify with homer wells in so many ways.

hotel new hampshire rocked. it is very likely he based the hotel on a specific place.
