My friend in a drunken play fight nipped me really hard on my tricep, upper arm. It still really aches and is rather discomforting. What is it with that part of the body which reacts so badly to being nipped?

My dad learned a trick during his lifesaving instruction. If a drowning victim grabs onto you and tries to take you under, pinch them in that area or the inner thigh and they'll always let go.
