Periods...why are some males (and females) so squeamish about them?

I'm on my period now...swollen, crampy...fatigue-ridden...and I'm reminded about how taboo the subject still is...people just don't like to talk about it...women in my office (me included) hide pads and tampons in their pockets or up their sleeves when they go to the restroom...why?
Why is this natural thing such a taboo?

maybe, but it's part of female life. and with all the commercials you see about maxi-pads and feminine hygiene you think folks would be at least somewhat desensitized to it all.

Those commercials are embarassing and stupid. Like the one where this chick uses a long string of tampons to get a tampon that fell out a window.

I hated having periods... Having to carry around extra pads, extra tampons. Worrying about spotting on your clothes... and on, and on...

I am so over that...

You'd be cranky if you were bleeding like a stuck pigs for four days a month in some of the worse pain some people will ever experience, for years. We won't even talk about what happens after you have the kids.
