notice that the symbols all appear more than once and that for example 54, 34, 36, 18, etc all have the same symbol as each other. that's because for every two-digit number there's going to be one answer from the equation. if you choose 23 to begin with, 2+3=5. 23-5 = 18. if you choose 40, 4+0= 4. 40-4= 36. but no matter what you choose you cannot get for example 33. or 50. or 86.

I must admit it did take me 10 seconds to figure that one out.

It's very simple... the numbers you will get are always 0, 9, 18, 22, 24, 25, 27... etc. Look at the chart. The symbols change every time but those numbers are always the same as the others - though not the same symbol every turn- and that's the symbol you're gonna get.
