ANGELS IN AMERICA: PART ONE discussion

so, what did everyone think?

i was quite pleased. meryl streep was incredible, and none of the people i watched it with realized that was her playing the old rabbi man.

not officially back though, not yet at least. just having a slow day in the office, and don't feel like working lines on the scripts.

as did i.

i particularly love prior (the AIDS victim who will be the prophet for the apocolypse) and harper (the delusional wife), which was a bit of a suprise. before this version, i was much more interested in louis and joe.

i also find myself having a lot more compassion for roy then i have in the past.

i freaking loved the prior priors announcing the coming of the messenger. they totally rocked. and meryl as hannah, joe's mother... i about busted a lung laughing at her reaction to his announcing his sexuality.

I knew the rabbi was someone made to look old.. so I knew something was up. Didn't guess it was Meryl Streep tho!! I loved all Emma's characters. I never saw or read the play before this. I too enjoyed Joe's wife's character, as well as Louis'. I look forward to the next installment so I can figure out how it all ends. thumbs up!

Her reaction to him coming out didn't suprise me. Kinda reminds me of my family, in denial.

I missed this, so I'll have to catch a re-run. Anyone know how faithfull to the play it was? My ex-wife is a huge fan of the play[s], but I never got a chance to see it.

part 2 gets a lot more emotional and a lot more crazy. part one is mostly set up for part 2.

it just made me laugh. i can't recall what the exact line is but something along the lines of:

Joe: I'm... I'm a homosexual. (Pause) Mom?

Hannah: Well I would think you were old enough to realize your father didn't love you without making some big dumb reaction like this.

from what i recall of the script (which is a lot, read it several times) it is almost word for word, and the few things that are changed are mostly to support the change from stage to screen. i really hold it as probably one of the most faithful adaptations i have ever seen.

Thye're going to run Part One all this week, on all the different HBOs, so you should get the chance to see it. Part Two debuts on Sunday (or was it Saturday? Someone help me out here)
