Hey sd, did you ever try Prevacid? I was on it last summer and it started working from day one.

Never really tried that, I've heard a lot about it though. My doctor put me on nexium and it worked great, and the same with prilosec.. but I will keep that in mind if anything starts to change.

I was on prescription Prilosec for years (and will be for the rest of my life) until I changed insurance companies and it was no longer considered a "preferred brand". So I changed to Prevacid. For me, Prevacid did not work as well as Prilosec. Once Prilosec became available over the counter I bought some and used it. It is wonderful and it is cheaper than the co-pay for my prescriptions and doctor's visits! Make sure you get it at Wal-Mart though; it is much much cheaper there.
Have you been to a Gastroenterologist? You could have some major problems down there that you may need to get looked at. Prilosec does wonders though and yes, it will help to heal your lower esophagus because the stomach acids will no longer be eating away at it.

Yes, actually I have been to a gastro doctor, he put me on nexium, I was schedualed for an endescopy, but I never got one.. If this problem was to rise again, I will surely go back to see him and have them look inside.

I don't think you should put the endoscopy off... it could be anything. Also have your doctor check for H-Pylori which a bacteria in the intestines.. It can reck havoc with your digestive system.. Also have him check for gallstones... Also just to get you in to have this done... this stuff can mess up your esophogus big time..

Thank u for that info.. definantly check it out.. u think I should still get one even if this Prilosec seems to be clearing up any symptoms, or should I wait until it starts again if it does... I remember him sayin that he seemed to thinked it perhaps had to do with IBS.

Prilosec is medication... it does not cure the problem.. Find out the source of this irritation, and work to get that cured..

Funny my doctor said the same thing to me IBS.. it turned out that I had several gallstones creating my discomfort. Had my gallbladder removed and am feeling great...

Because at the source of this discomfort, it really does seem like an incredible discomfort of acid, which the proton pump inhibotors (nexium prilosec) seem to calm it down.. i would assume gallstone symptoms would be a very horrible feeling? Not sayin this acid stuff isnt bad, but I figured that would be much worse..

Actually Prilosec does cure the problem if you have damage to your esophagus, indirectly. The damage is caused by the acid eating away. When the acid is not being produced (what Prilosec does) it does not eat away at the esophagus. Like any other cut or scrape, the esophagus heals itself in time.
But, the acid reflux could be caused by a larger problem like a Hiatle Hernia. A Hiatle Hernia is when your stomach is partially above the diaphragm and the top cannot close properly. Surgery can correct it but the surgery could be not successful (that is what happened to me).
But yes, it is best for you to go back to get an endoscopy. It doesn’t hurt at all and is harmless. It’s actually kind of fun to be under the drugs. You should do it just to make sure everything is okay.

Welll, no it doesn't hurt, that's true, and yes they do put you to sleep, and I don't want to scare anybody, but... I had a doctor who didn't give me enough of whatever it was they put in your IV to put you to sleep, and I woke up at one point during the procedure - immediately pulling the tube out of my throat. It was as if I didn't know what was going on as I woke up. Not that I intended to take the tube out. That mistake only happened to me once.

I've had the endoscopy done 3 times too, and will get it done again soon. Make sure you don't get some lame doctor (but of course that could be said anytime you go to a doctor). The last time I had it done I had a brilliant doctor who not only knew all the right things to say (he was a very calming influence), he made the procedure go as smooth as silk.

I'll keep that in mind.. I will more than likely get that endoscopy sometime in january.
