I was on prescription Prilosec for years (and will be for the rest of my life) until I changed insurance companies and it was no longer considered a "preferred brand". So I changed to Prevacid. For me, Prevacid did not work as well as Prilosec. Once Prilosec became available over the counter I bought some and used it. It is wonderful and it is cheaper than the co-pay for my prescriptions and doctor's visits! Make sure you get it at Wal-Mart though; it is much much cheaper there.
Have you been to a Gastroenterologist? You could have some major problems down there that you may need to get looked at. Prilosec does wonders though and yes, it will help to heal your lower esophagus because the stomach acids will no longer be eating away at it.

I had a horrible case of this last night.. I was sick to my stomach.. It is a horrible thing..

I don't think you should put the endoscopy off... it could be anything. Also have your doctor check for H-Pylori which a bacteria in the intestines.. It can reck havoc with your digestive system.. Also have him check for gallstones... Also just to get you in to have this done... this stuff can mess up your esophogus big time..
