R.I.P. Basia (our bird, not the singer)

sad

she died this morning at the blessed age of 10.

she was a happy little soul, and had a special love for the blue jays in our neighborhood, always answering their calls.

this afternoon, i'll bury her in the back yard, so she can be with her friends. tombstone

that bird has flown, for good

it's a shitty thing that you always outlive your pets.
I had to put my cat to sleep two months ago, it was one of the hardest things i've ever done.

thank you guys, for your kind notes! despite my work on behalf of animals, it still surprises me sometimes how connected and attached i become.

noepie, so sorry to hear about your cat - having to take an animal to be put to sleep is so difficult, even if you know they're suffering... sad

So sorry to hear that. Wow, she was pretty old for a parakeet wasn't she? That's cool that she lived that long. Our bunny Otis just died two weeks ago while we were on vacation. sad He was pretty old, and I knew it was coming soon. It's still sad though.

sad

I can relate, when I was about 9 I had 2 parakeets, Pete and Chip. My brother killed pete (my favorite) by ttrying to force feed him, shoving his face into his food bowl and choking him in the process.

Chip died when the latch on his cage door broke and escaped only to be caught by our cat, I witnessed the whole thing eek I don't think I've ever been so heartbroken. bheart

Anyways R.I.P Basia! rose

omg those stories are so sad!

i think it's great for kids to be around animals - ideally, it teaches the kids about respect for living beings, responsibility, and sadly also about death. important lessons, for sure.

You know, I found the greatest respect for all living things after I took a couple of psilocybins and stepped on a water bug, I felt all of it's energy transfer through my foot then my leg and to this day I still regret my actions.
