Why Do People Hang Blue Lights on Their Houses and/or Trees During the Christmas Season??

I have been wondering about that recently, since I have seen some houses and/or trees/bushes that have blue lights on them. I can understand people using colors such as red, green and white to decorate, but blue is not really a color that is associated with Christmas. What's up with that???

Near my parent's house, someone has red and blue lights that are arranged so that the lights go diagonally from the top of the pole down to the ground in a Christmas tree shape. It looks like something that you would see outside of someone's house for the 4th of July or Memorial Day, but it could be that they are doing it because they knew someone who was killed during the 9/11 incident.

Even worse is when people put orange lights on their houses during Halloween. barf If you've never seen orange lights on a house, you're not missing much, because it is really ugly. lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

i like the blue light look. not so much mixing it with red, cuz that doesn't look like Christmas, but I've seen a lot of tastefully done blue light displays. (and I'm not talking about KMart!!!) wink

BLUE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
(Buck Owens / Red Simpson)
Buck Owens - 1965

(Excuse me Miss but do you have any)
Blue Christmas lights for my Christmas tree
I want some blue Christmas lights just as blue as me
The one I love has set me free but I still got her memory
Give me blue Christmas lights for my Christmas tree

(Pardon me but do you have any)
Blue Christmas lights blue they've gotta be
Blue Christmas lights for that's how you left me
Although sweetheart you're far away I'll kiss your picture
Christmas Day
Under blue Christmas lights on my Christmas tree

The one I love has set me free but I still got her memory
Give me blue Christmas lights for my Christmas tree
I'll have have a blue Christmas cause you're not here with me
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

I doubt most of the folks who hang the blue lights think about this, but blue is an advent color--preparing for Christ's birth.

I've wondered the same myself...could they be Hannukah lights? Jews may be getting into the holiday spirit, but obviously in keeping with their faith...?

Maybe I'll knock on someone's door one of these days and ask...

This is it. It's for the jewish holiday of hannuka. Back in the good ole days when you could use a dime to use the pay phone or the word gay meant happy (no gay bashing just adding humor) the familes that lived in my neighborhood that had the blue lights were all Jewish. I even asked my friend Tony who is Jewish about it as well. Here is the correct answer to the blue light mystery.

I prefer today over the good ole days but I would rater use a dime for a pay phone then a fidty cent piece.
