Have You Ever Received A Letter From A Celebrity? ...and I mean a real letter! Not those cheesy Publisher's Clearinghouse letters from Ed McMahan and Dick Clark telling you that you may have already won a million bucks!
No, I mean a real letter. I'll start. Back in high school (1981-83) I used to sing at all the assemblies, all the talent shows, etc... and my voice was very Lionel Ritchie-ish (at the time ). Now remember - he was huge in the 80's! I had a friend who was very into my voice and aspirations. He sent a letter to Lionel Ritchie telling him how great I was, how I should get a shot at the big time, how Lionel should audition me, etc... pretty much a "no matter how 'great' you are, we both shit the same way" type letter. I had no clue he did this, and he never told me. I guess the letter and the style in which it was written struck a cord with Mr. Ritchie - cuz, one day I went home and there was a letter addressed to me, from Lionel. It was in an envelope with the logo style of his "Lionel Ritchie" album (the one with "You Are" and "Wandering Stranger" on it). The letter had the same logo on it, but the text was a very "non-form-ish" letter. It was typed, but personal. "A buddy of yours wrote me... etc..." He proceeded to give me tips and suggestions on how to get some recognition. He said he had no time to offer me a personal audition, but to continue to take every opportunity given... it was very nice. He signed it himself. It was cool to receive something like this. I never expected it, having never initiated the correspondence. It made me feel good. I should have thanked him... Have any of y'all ever received a letter or something personally from a celeb? Just wondering... (fcuked up gamrmar eidt) [This message was edited Mon Dec 1 10:31:31 PST 2003 by June7] |

Well, in all fairness, you shouldn't have included those photos of you and Prince naked in a hot tub! You know, the ones that you created through Photoshop 7! That probably did it! |

Yeah, any personal correspondence... no ads, or chain letters/email. |

Vanity wrote me a small letter on the back of an 8x10 she sent me in '85
Tyka Nelson wrote me a very nice letter, and sent me an 8x10 inside a envelope "From Your #1 MPLS Fan!" and James Scott, a popular boxer at one time, has written me a few times Besides that, I've met several celebrities and have had some good personal chats with a few others. It's cool when they do nice things like that. edit: i always notice the typos a second too late [This message was edited Mon Dec 1 11:47:58 PST 2003 by Jasziah]

I used to write to Soleil Moon Frye back in the late 80's.
you probably know her as Punky Brewster 86-87 or these days she plays Roxy in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. We wrote for a while and she even called me a few times. She just got married not that long ago so I am glad she is happy Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

June 7, gettin' a letter from Lionel Richie must have been awesome as he was a mega-star in the 1980's. I'm a big Lionel Richie fan and have all his solo albums.
Its cool that Lionel Richie took the time 2 write 2 u. Its a shame that other famous people/celebrities can't b bothered 2 write back 2 their fans. Perhaps they r 2 famous 2 write letters or type them on a computer keyboard, who knows? If I was famous I'd try & write back 2 every fan who wrote 2 me (only the nice letters of course ) as without fans celebrities r well...ordinary people. Sometimes their egos become 2 big that they think they r more important than any1 else, which they aren't. Some even charge 4 autographs, Ur Lionel Richie letter must have been a big suprise. Did u ever write back 2 say thanks? Lionel Richie & all the other famous people who write, email or even phone their fans Other famous people who can't b bothered 2 sign autographs, send emails etc.
