make believe there is a magical place called "Rhodesia". In "Rhodesia" everyone is paid the equivilant of $100 an hour. A Rhodesian corporation decided to move some jobs to America (or wherever you are) to save some money and decided to pay everyone there $30 an hour. To the Rhodesians, $30 an hour is chicken feed and one cannot live on that kind of money. But in America $30 an hour is good money. Now tell me, are the Americans who choose to take the job for $30 an hour being exploited? In the eyes of other Rhodesians they are. But in the American's eyes this is a great offer. Now imagine Rhodesian people boycotting everything that company produces until it is forced to shut down and a new one springs up in it's place led by a ceo who will forgo his zillion dollar increase in order to afford to return jobs to Rhodesia where they belong in the first place. That is real capatalism at work yes, that is true. i applaud you for that analysis. that is how everything should work. but using the government to impose regulations is the anti-solution. Keep in mind that for every government regulation there are usually about a hundred government handouts and tax breaks helping out tha corporations. Most coorporations do not practice what they preach. The flaw I found in your original story is that usually when a company moves overseas and pays it's workers much more than the going wage they still are not paying a living wage., the people of prosperus countries should be digusted and boycott, the third world workers should unionize [This message was edited Mon Dec 1 18:42:47 PST 2003 by paintsprayer] Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there

True point Chemmie, but in a lot of cases US&UK companies are not paying survival wages. There are people working in factories building computer chips who are suffering from malnutrition and overwork. As consumers, these companies would be nothing without us. We pay their wages with out shopping. So, why can't we bully these companies around? Make 'em face up to their responsibilities. I'm not an "anti-capitalist" at all, I just want a bit more fairness. Fair enough? "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain" | |
