Beer in the parking lot, route nine, the last time I saw a dead girl

This one has been bouncing around in my head since redfeathers saw someone die.

In my earlie twenties I worked part time in a resteraunt

One friend also worked there and another would come down to join us at close. Thus would be the group.

One night after close(midnight or so) we were severel beers into deciding what to do. Sometimes we passed whole nights like this in the parking lot.

Suddenly there was a horrible crash. An explosion, pop, grinding scraping etc.

I was the one who asked who wanted to go.
And we were off running, first in the wrong direction because the echo had reached us so loud.

The small pickup was on it's side and the passenger had begun to be tossed from the truck only to have it land on his chest.

It was a friend from high school, his head was on the pavement, blood was everywhere.

he was actually coherent, began talking to my friend

The street was littered with beer cans
it took forever for the ambulance to arrive
a nightime fog had come in by the time the helicopter showed
I pulled away and walked towards the other car
I didn't really have to get close before I knew she was dead

we made a few calls to friends and familly.
finished our six p[ack mostly in silence and went home
Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there
When silhouettes fall

I'm so sorry that must have been such a horrible thing to see, especially when it's someone you care about. sad

It doesn't matter how long ago it was, it's still a terrible thing to have to live through, it brought a tear to my eye reading your story. hug
