The human body is amazing. Apart from the appendix there´s barely a single organ in our bodies without a useful function. I can also understand why we have hair on our heads (protection against the cold), why we have eyebrows and eyelashes (protection against things getting in our eyes) and even nasal hair (again protection).

What I don´t understand though, is why evolution hasn´t eradicated the rest of our body hair. What is the point of pubic hair, armpit hair, leg hair and arm hair (not to mention other little hairs that can start to grow in the most awkward places every once in a while)? It offers no protection worth mentioning and it only gets in the way.

Is it only there to annoy us and thereby remind us that we´re merely human? Or does anybody have a better idea?

I forget the actual reason right now but there is one.

It's to keep us warm in colder weather. You may have noticed that men of northern European decent are generally more hairy then men of African decent.

I guess the answer is that evolution simply isn´t done with the eradication process yet. But it´s about bloody time! It is neither useful nor attractive on either men or women. At least not in my opinion.

Men still have body hair to keep me sexually aroused.

My cousin researched this for college. It's purpose is to trap the smells and "pheremones" from down there. It's to stimulate the want for intercourse. Of course this is of no use to us anymore, as I don't think there will ever be a shortage of people wanting to screw.

I was reading an article which discussed this, and the evolutionary psychiatrist stated that science's best guess as to the purpose of pubic hair is that it serves to indicate when we are physically mature enough to have sex/procreate.

In other words--if there isn't any hair down there, she ain't old enough yet. Funny how society promotes hairlessness for women--some say that a man desiring a hairless woman is an indication that he may like passive, childlike, girly women. Hmmm.....

Certain cultures get off on trimming it to excess, but I find hairy guys extremely attractive.

As women go, though, I have to admit to my sexism. I generally find smooth women (except for the genital area) sexier than shaggy ones.
