Bowie on The Simpsons?!

Mr Warburton said the Simpsons production team had drawn up a list of 10 British stars they had hoped would take cameo roles. "There was a part for a famous British musician. I would have liked David Bowie or Morrissey, who lives in LA. We couldn't use Thom Yorke because he'd already been in South Park and we couldn't use Elton John because he has already been on the show and so has Sir Paul McCartney."

The writer said the Simpsons team still hoped to persuade Bowie to appear in a later episode

FAMOUS PEOPLE WHO APPEARED, AND THE ONES WHO DIDN'T

Famous people who have read their lines
Three former Beatles: the late George Harrison, Paul McCartney (who appeared with the late Linda McCartney) and Ringo Starr
Jerry Lewis
J K Rowling
U2
Elton John
Michael Moore
Aerosmith
Michael Jackson
Donald Sutherland
Barry White
Simon Cowell
Meryl Streep
Danny DeVito
Martin Sheen
Dustin Hoffman
Kelsey Grammar

Famous people who have been offered but turned it down

Al Gore
Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury

Famous people who wanted to do it but were rejected

David Beckham
Al Gore (after first turning it down)

Oh crap, there have been a helluva lot more than that! Just a few off the top of my head:

John Waters
Tracy Ullman
Liz Taylor
Jonny Carson
David Duchovney
Gillian Anderson
Kid Rock
Darry Strawberry
Sting
Dolly Parton
Willie Nelson
and I know I'm forgetting many, many more.
