We may be up for a kick-ass third movie! Check this out...

Among a ton of extras in the new DVD package, there are preliminary production drawings of ANGEL/ARCHANGEL and, yes, the SENTINELS!!! dancing jig

Also, there are set construction photos for the DANGER ROOM and a storyboard that outlines a sequence with Logan practicing in the room under simulated gunfire and a tidal wave floor effect. While the sequence wasn't used for either of the existing films, the set that was meant to be the Danger Room apparently became the elaborate tunnel system that we've seen below the X Mansion.

It seems these ideas have been shelved so far or, in the case of the Danger Room, underplayed, but this stuff means that the crew has certainly been thinking of these elements and may perhaps utilize them in upcoming projects!

The Danger Room set was built for a sequence originally
intended for X2. The sequence was cut after the set had been
built, but before they had filmed it. The set is currently being
kept in storage for probable inclusion in X3.

Sentinels were also designed for X2, though they never even made it to the script stage. i'd sure like to see the designs though. they're said to be "breathtaking"

They're very interesting, Aaron. They have the classic silhouette, but their embellishment is sort of a mix of a skeletal H.R. Giger design and that of the Imperial Destoyer Droids from Star Wars Episode I (the ones that roll into wheels).

It'll be fun to see a final version of them onscreen.

I stayed up almost all night watching the extras here, and I just have to say that after seeing the work that went into Nightcrawler's White House attack, I think that sequence has become one of my all-time favorite movie openers and hand-to-hand combat scenes ever.

Even after multiple viewings -- from various angles, with or without CGI "teleportation" FX, and with wires in full view -- the scene is breathtaking.

I'm amazed at the vision these guys had, and the ultimate outcome was 40 years of dreams come true. worship

lol Thank God, no! The preliminary production renderings appear to call for a steel or chrome finish.

Oh, I feel you! The DVD enables you to view the finished scene side-by-side with the preliminary CAD animation and the unfinished shots with visible wires and no "bamfing."

It's clear that from day one these guys wanted this sequence to be absolute magic!

I went out and rented the DVD yesterday and I really liked it. It was a vast improvement upon the first movie. Its obvious that there were certain "hints" in the movie that Jean Grey would return as either the Phoenix or a Phoenix like character. For example in the movie: 1) Jean`s character kept saying that she wasn`t feeling right, 2) the 2 scenes where her eyes glow with orange flames when she used her powers, 3) Prof X smiling and looking out the window saying that everying would be alright at the end of the movie (IE some possible type of telepathic contact with a still living Jean?), 4) and of course the final scene of the film in which it looks as if we see the Phoenix effect flying under the waters of Alaki Lake??? Of course Jean will be back as the Phoenix. Now only if they could inculde Omega Red in the next film !?!?!?!?!

On a related note, here is some info on the upcoming Batman movie. From what I have read they are dropping the "campy" feeling of the last 3 movies and going back to the Frank Miller style of Batman. THANK GOD!!! The film is supposed to open the same week as Episode III.

As development continues on the fifth BATMAN movie, one of our friends from across the Atlantic Ocean wrote in to tell us of a juicy casting rumor making the rounds over in England. According to our informant, there's talk that BATMAN director Christopher Nolan is seeking to cast an actor for a villain role at the beginning of the film. This character is known to fans of Batman lore, and at one time was rumored to be the main villain in a fan script known as THE FRIGHTENING: none other than The Scarecrow.

According to our source, the film's primary bad guy will remain R'as al Ghul, the immortal whose vision of a world without chaos reaches through centuries of time. But the idea is to introduce the Scarecrow early in the film to show audiences that this BATMAN movie is different than its predecessors; namely, that it's darker and scarier, and that the rogues that Batman face in Nolan's vision of Gotham City are far more dangerous than the ones seen in Joel Schumacher's BATMAN movies.

Our agent tells us that the idea is to show the Scarecrow terrorizing Gotham so Nolan's version of Batman (played by Christian Bale) can be introduced. After bringing down Scarecrow the plot would then move on to Batman having to leave Gotham City, possibly as a result of the actions of this opening segment, and travelling to London where al Ghul is located. There the majority of the film's story takes place.

The part is small and isn't like the previous three BATMAN films which have seen the Dark Knight face two villains throughout the picture. There may be a possibility that Scarecrow could return in a future BATMAN movie but for now it's meant to be a one-time appearance and that's all.

"The person in mind to play [Scarecrow] is Christopher Eccleston," writes "Lucky Ace", our scooper. Eccleston is British and was most recently seen in Danny Boyle's post-apocalytic zombie movie 28 DAYS LATER as Major West. Curiously, one of Eccleston's co-stars in 28 DAYS LATER was also rumored to be under consideration to play the new Batman before Bale was announced in the role, Cillian Murphy.

The production is also looking to cast the role of R'as al Ghul sooner rather than later and have been considering actors from around the world. Unlike the Scarecrow gossip, our Ace in the hole didn't have any names to report at the present time but they did mention the talk is "of people like a younger Anthony Hopkins-type".

Production on BATMAN 5 is still scheduled to begin in the early months of 2004.
My DC Direct wishlist: 1) Bane, 2) Prof Zoom, 3) Superman Blue, 4) Kilowag, 5) Parasite
