It exists as a social construct that was utilized historically as a political utility. As such it exists only to the degree that it is deployed for political or social organizational purposes. Our culture whether we call it black or white is neither. It is hybrid. Always has been. As political or social identities however there is no such thing as "mixed." "Mixed" or "biracial" historically has never been used to oppress people politically or to control their socialization; as such it does not really have much use as an identity in the way "black" or "white" has. Let's see...I was born in Wales. Now there is Welsh, Irish, English, German, Black. My ex is Filipino so that would make my 3 kids Eurasians (European/Asian). Love that melting pot.
