The AIDS issue is perplexing, you would think that the potential for money is huge. Sadly the largest market (South Africa) is also one of the poorest. Hence research concentrates on slimming down Mr gluttonous busnessman who can affort nice expensive drugs. Sucks I know, but to generalise on this one is wrong there are a lot of small bioteck companies that encourage new work and young scientists.
