Who Would You Not...

... work for?

every few months, i get the urge to look for another job. the only problem is that the list of companies or industries i would not work for keeps getting longer and longer...

i wouldn't work for:

  • research labs that conduct animal testing
  • department stores that sell leather or fur
  • the campaign to re-elect Bush (or any other republican for that matter)
  • Weyerhauser or any other large wood/paper company
  • ADM
  • Arthur Anderson
  • Halliburton or any other defense contractor
  • large pet stores
  • Fox News
  • a slaughter house
  • the diamond industry
  • Wal-Mart or any other global retail conglomerate
  • anybody in the pharmaceutical industry
  • a restaurant that serves meat

damn, guess i'll be searching for a looong time!

what company would you not work for?

The people I would not work for, I already am since they came and bought out the company, I have a feeling that most of us will be working for them in the future.

you don't necessarily have to agree with some of the choices here, but there must be some companies you would have qualms about...

in this employment climate? in this economy where almost every industry is suffering?

no. i don't hold ill will toward anyone trying to make money, or trying to pay me some.

you may have misunderstood - i don't mind companies making money, there are just some jobs i would not do, no matter what. i guess i should consider that a privilege - i don't know what i'd do if the only job available were at a slaughter house...

I would not work for any family members, nor would I hire any. Too much room for drama... disbelief

Oh, and I'd stay away from Ambercrombie & Fritch (or however you say it) as they are racist bastards, who, it seems, probably wouldn't hire me anyway.

Oh, and althom. Cuz, he only pays you in crack. confused

the diamond industry in South Africa is notorious for horrific labor conditions, and i personally believe that the pharmaceutical industry often takes advantage of markets, rather than eliminating them. for example, it bugs me that there are so many heartburn or cholesterol medications out there, when most conditions like that are lifestyle related. in the meantime, the world faces some serious health concerns that are not being addressed as aggressively as they could, such as AIDS. now, i do understand that the world AIDS crisis is far more complicated than that, but it seems like at some point, it should be about more than just profits. just my twocents

Does that mean ALL diamonds are proliferating the labour conditions in SA? Or is diamond mining notorious world wide? Some pharmas arn't bad, I have associations with a few and for the most part they are usually trying to "fill the gaps" adressing the issues that get left by the big boys because of there association with smaller profits. The AIDS issue is perplexing, you would think that the potential for money is huge. Sadly the largest market (South Africa) is also one of the poorest. Hence research concentrates on slimming down Mr gluttonous busnessman who can affort nice expensive drugs. Sucks I know, but to generalise on this one is wrong there are a lot of small bioteck companies that encourage new work and young scientists. nod
