Sure, I had my share of bullies growing up. I mean, what do you expect from a black kid living in Harlem, N.Y. who "talked like a white boy", loved "white people music", and didn't conform to social standards and was classified as a "nerd" in school?

I never really did try to defend myself because I was just a punk like that. Also because I was scared that the one bully would bring an army to defend themselves.

Mind you, this was at a time when Gangsta rap was in full swing, so you had cats who aspired to that lifestyle. I've had one of the worst experiences in dealing with bullies in my elementary and junior high school days. But I got through it.

There's definitely truth to the theory of bullies being very insecure people themselves. Oftentimes using bullying to cover up their inadequacies in other areas, usually school-related.

Once my sister graduated from high school leaving me to fend by myself (see an earlier post to explain this), I had to face some bullies. I remember this one dude who dogged me throughout high school. I pretty much ignored him. After I graduated he got my address from this girl I kept in touch with and he wrote me a long letter apologizing for trying to bully me saying how proud he was of what I had accomplished after high school. I was shocked eek. I later found out that a few years after that he ended up coming out of the closet...seems he was bullying people in high school to not come to terms with his own issues.

Another bully came up to me the day we graduated and shook my hand shocked I was like EH? confuse And he was like "Maaan, I'm proud of you... but always thought you were arrogant so I had to try to bring you down." I told him "Maaan if you only knew how I avoided you cuz I was scurrred of YOU." And we both busted out laughin lol Each of us thinking the other was too tough or too arrogant.

anyway...i just read through most of the testimonials on this thread, and it made me think: 'sides mr. scary-curl next door, i didn't really have any neighborhood/city bullies while growin up. i stayed well away from everybody else, so nobody really knew who i was in order to pick on/bully me i suppose.

same here, i was kinda looked at strangely by some of my peers in high school too, cuz i hung out with the punks and geeks and didn't wear crap like fubu. for the most part, everyone in my class who knew me respected me for bein myself. they thought i was pretty ballsy. lol

worship to the both of y'all.
Most of the elementary schools I went to were very very Ghetto. I was the only kid who liked "white folks music" and was a die-hard Prince fan. It wasn't until High School that I found more people who shared my interests. But even then I still got picked on because I was just being myself. At the same time I got respect for that too. My youth sucked.

I've only ever bullied someone once nod and once only! I was like 9 years old and i remember we (me n some friends) made this boy really upset at us...cause we were callin him a cockhead (i dont even know why)...n then he chased us non-stop around da playground...until eventually we got into trouble...and got listed in da "bad books" at school nod
Man, dat was mean! sad Poor kid.
This brings about this memory of these two boys who used to chase me around da playground and try and lift my skirt and touch my putty tat. I was NOT impressed at da time!!! mad

In grade 7 there was a group of grade 9 boys that called me a fag EVERY DAY, in between classes, at lunchtime, when teachers were busy supervising other parts of the hall I guess.

The most defensive I got was when 2 guys who called me a faggot just decided to pick on me in general. I remember I had a Poetic Justice picture of Janet Jackson in my locker, and they said "You like that n---?" "Are you a n--- lover?" pissed I get irked just remembering that!
