We should be responsible for our own words on this site as in life.

I certainly think that Prince's music is accessible to 14 year olds in any country. In most countries, people of that age would still be classified as minors.

My argument is not that we should censor ourselves collectively, nor am I trying to dictate to anyone else what they should or shouldn't say. However, whatever we are discussing, whether it be sex, sexual stereotypes, racial prejudices or political preferences I do believe we should be aware of the affect our words may have on others and take personal responsibility for them.

Nice point, well made. I think in a perfect world we would have to be discrete, but kids learn about very vulgar things very early on these days. I lost my virginity when I was 12 and from where I come from that isn't really that unusual. I know many people who have had sex at 13 - 14 years old. I knew one girl who had a series boyfriend and they were at it all the time. I don't think what we say is going to make any difference.

Very good point.

I don't think we can say that minors shouldn't be here as it's primarily a Prince fan site, not a sex site.

In an ideal world, parents will be monitoring which sites their children visit when they're on the internet, and ensuring they are not having sex at an early age ... however, we don't live in an ideal world ... sigh

Perhaps we should each be a little more aware of the possible consequences some of our words may have on others when we post to a thread.

I dont mean to sound harsh or anything here, but why should we be responsible for others on this site? Again it is and ADULT site, if some teen is gonna have sex, thay are gonna do it, whether they read about it here or not. There is loads of sexual content in Princes earlier music, sex is a beautiful thing so why shouldnt we chat about or discuss it? I think said teenager is gonna hear a hell of alot worse on the streets or in school than what is posted on this on Prince.Org

Maybe it has to start somewhere. The phrase now and days is "They hear alot worse over there". They could also see alot better over here. I'm not trying to preach, but how does something become better if noone takes the first step. You can't worry about the evil over there, you have to work with what you got.

So maybe every sex thread should have a warning "please dont have underage sex, please take precautions?" falloff

Or maybe just a little more thought and tact when expressed. Or save it for an orgnote, or resquest a forum specifically for it. P&R is proof it can happen nod .

If a kid takes all their clothes off and entwines their genitals with someone else how the hell can we be blamed. Even children are responsible for their own actions. They should be able to tell by the sensation alone that they are meddling in things that aren’t to be mucked about with!

I think single parents can bring up their children just as well as any other. It is all about teaching them and educating them about right and wrong, giving them morals and standards from an early age

There's nothing in the Terms of Service to say that minors are not supposed to be here. The site describes itself merely as a prince fan community site, and makes no attempt to declare itself as unsuitable for minors or intending to cater exclusively for a non-minor community.

The Diuscussion Forum rules, to which people must agree if they wish to discuss (but not to view) make clear that people are permitted to talk about sex, but they must try not to be vulgar or obscene.

I've previously been advised by a moderator that there was an intention to make (more) clear the policy of the site in relation to the audience / participants, but I've seen no evidence that this is currently being pursued.

It is supposed to be over 18 site and I am sure ben is putting it into action
Red - I've been told that too - that was about a year ago - , and that's fine and dandy - if that is the intention.

BUT - where does it say that it's an adult site? Nowhere, as far as I can see. Rather it gives the appearance on the homepage that it simply caters for a non-exclusive fan community. If the site is intended to be ADULT only, then it seems only reasonable that it should at least state so, at the very least, in the terms of service

http://www.prince.org/use...ement.html

The service is described, but there is no definition of 'user' being someone who should be above a specific age, or the service being intended for users above a certain age.

I fully acknowledge that this is a difficult area for the site owner to tackle, and I personally have no axe to grind as to whether the site's user policy is adult-only or non-exclusive. My only concern is that it appears to the first time user who signs up to the terms of service to be the latter, whereas I've been told by a moderator that it's the former.

My question is how many kids actually listen when you say DON'T DO IT. These days they pretty much do whatever they can get away with.

Changing the way we speak in here is not going to chnage their minds about it. It never changed mine, and it seemed like everyone around me was popping off babies when I was a high schooler, it didn't make me want to get someone pregnant.

They know what safe sex is, they can watch any TV program if they don't, these forums aren't making kids have sex, hormones are.

I guess I'd be more concerned if this was a website that more teenagers frequented. As it is, it's a bit unusual (though obviously not impossible) to have anyone under 18 yrs old here.

Otherwise, I'd say that there is a relatively good balance of healthy and unhealthy sexuality here, and that a teen's peers and parents will be more influential in what they learn about sex and deciding if/when they have sex.

So do you find nothing wrong with a minor being exposed to explicit sexual material over and over? Would this be ok for a ten year old? A five year old? Or is there a cutoff at all?

Certainly. There should be a point at which a CHILD is not exposed to explicit material, however I don't believe many of us here would allow their children (I have none mind you only siblings that I am the legal guardian of) to view or participate in explicit discussions.

I DO FIRMLY BELIEVE that a parent should check up on their childrens activities especially on line. I do it for my siblings. I can hoenstly say that there isn't anything that they do (my siblings), that I am not aware of (short of not turning in homework, until too late).

I think it's unfair to expect people who may or may not know who's viewing these posts to curb language that was not MEANT to be viewed by minors. I'm sure it's noones intention to corrupt children when they post in forums.

(Take a look at my profile, and tell me how old I am).

DO you disagree?? I know it is never my intention. I always thought I was dealing with at adults, or at least individuals over 18 or so. Not that I ever knew for certain.
