I don't own one. It makes me laugh when I see so many people with cell phones clued to their head. Some people can't even go to the store without calling someone. Granted, they are useful in certain situations, but for the most part, I think we could live without carrying them around everywhere we go.

Why dont you guys understand that there are jobs out there on which having a cell phone makes things a lot easier? In my profession, a cell phone is abolutely necessary. I couldnt work without it. And still I am being stared down sometimes when it rings in public...

I resisted for several years, but caved in after my car broke down on Interstate 65. Fortunately I was near a city and able to limp my car to a gas station (well, I had to push it the last 100 feet), but I realized that I easily could have broken down in the middle of rural Indiana. So I got a cell phone and a AAA membership.

Initially I got a $10 per month plan with no included airtime because I intended to use the phone only for emergencies. But then my cell phone account got sold to AT&T Wireless, and the least-expensive plan available had 50 minutes of airtime per month. And that's when I became a cell phone user.

My current plan has free night/weekend airtime and free long distance, which is very useful when you're in a long-distance relationship. I'll get bills showing that I spent 2500 minutes on the phone in a month. redface

So, yeah, I'm a cell phone user. And I'll be getting rid of my landline and going all-wireless next month. mr.green

A cell phone is essential for a writer? confuse

For a journalist, yes. I dont know how they made Newspapers without journalists equipped with cell phones. Some older co-workers have told me that it was like hell.

Ah, okay. That makes total sense. For whatever reason, I was picturing someone who writes books.

Book writers are better off with a cell phone as well. They could spend the five years waiting for the publishers call on the beach instead sitting by the phone.

Nope. Don't have one nor do I want one.

When I get hired as a full-time reporter, I'll probably have to get one...but I REALLY hate cell phones. Just one more way to have your privacy invaded.

If I don't want my privacy invaded, I'll turn the phone off. shrug
