the best part is, mike nichols has stuck very close to the original script, and they will be showing them as two seperate parts, both slightly over 3 hours, just as the play was done.

for those of you that are unfamiliar with it, which i assume will be most of you, it is one of the most incredible peices of theatre ever done. it's is an epic two part play whose subtitle "a gay fantasia on national themes" really limits the plays' epic scope. it is about the apacolypse through AIDS, as well as a political study in the reagan political era, an operatic telling of the second coming, and a fascinating portrait of lives ripped apart by the above.

For anyone who's taping this, I would do very nice things for any soul kind enough to send me a copy. When I saw an ad for this, my eyes popped outta my head. Unfortunately, I gave up cable as an attempt to write and get out of the house more often (which is working quite well!), so I'm gonna miss it. sad

Chrissy...I also cannot wait!! Kushner was one of the GREAT playwrights of the 20th Century. Robert Altman was supposed to do a film of this in the 90s--with Jodie Foster as the Angel.

Pacino's gonna make a GREAT Roy Cohn...

Yup...it's gonna be great. Do you know why Altman never made the movie, though? It's never been answered...

dunno... but to be honest, i am glad he didn't. altman is a great director but has a habit of severly altering the script.

he did a movie in the late 80s called "beyond therapy" that is a hilarious christopher durang play, one of my favorite playwrights. by the time altman had his way with it, it only carries passing resemblance to the play. he made unseen characters seen characters, made a whole subplot about the waiters and kitchen staff who only speak french for some stupid reason.

dreck...total dreck.

I've wanted to see this production fur years but never got around to it. The last time a theater company in my region put on this play was back in '98, but I couldn't make it.

I recall the press images of the descending angel were awesome!

I didn't know a film was in production. I wonder if I should read the stage script before I see it on TV.

most people, i would suggest against it, as the script is not a very easy read. it is very very confusing, and difficult for a person not accustomed to reading scripts to get through.

you however... yes, i think you should.

the movie was actually supposed to be out some time ago, but they had just began to shott when september 11th happened, and it caused a big delay.

I'll try to get my hands on it starting today then.
