Are U intouch with curent music? Do U listen to the radio?

I only watch TV in the evening when there are no music shows on. I don't watch 'Top of the pops' (UK TV) or any chart shows. I did as a kid but i couldn't tell you anything that's in the charts or has been for the past couple of years. I only ever listen to CDs I buy or compilations I make. I never listen to the radio.

Once a week some friends I know visit me and I tell them to bring any new CDs they buy with them so I have an idea of whats going on in the world of music, but that's all.

Personally I think 90% of radio in the UK is crap so I don't bother with it. Who here is the same.

Are U set in your ways and just listen to the bands / artists / styles U like or do U listen to whats being pluged.

*breaking radio silence*
today's "music" (if you can call it that) is complete C.R.A.P.
there's nothing original about the so-called "music" these days...jerk-offs like Eminem rely on stealing (and ruining) riffs from classic rock songs to shit out his particular brand of "brown baby boy".
I only listen to the radio when I'm at work...and even then, it's an oldies station (60's to 90's).
for those of you who may be interested, it is on the 'net at www.magic999.fm
give it a try

Yeah, Saturday I woke up early. (Which I never normally do) That was an exception. That's what got me thinking about how I was out of touch (and why I thought that was a good thing biggrin )

The kids are into it so I'm not tryin to ban it. It's just I'd rather see Cameo, George Clinton, James Brown, Hendrix, Prince and people on music TV and Radio. As it is, it's not for me.

BTW I wanna shoot Robbie Williams

I don't think I could BE more out of touch with the current mainstream shit.

I haven't listened to the radio for more than about 3 minutes since about 1997.

I haven't watched MTV or the like well ... ever really...

ALL I have listened to for the past 5 or so years is James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, Sly & Family Stone and Prince and a few others, none of which are really considered mainstream.

I have noticed some current stuff because of total over exposure but apart from making it possible for me to hear that song it just makes me end up hating it...

great marketing they got going there - we will play a song so much you hate it and never want to hear it again, let alone - go out and buy the damn CD

Morons.

Radio now days sucks, the best music was back in the mid 80's early 90's "old school" Bar-Kays, Cameo, NWA, etc" when I do listen to the radio it's 100.1 "a old school and R&B station in my hometown.

My situation is a lot like yours, Camille.

Nowadays, whenever the radio is on, it's set to NPR. lol And my personal tastes are for older and/or obscure artists.
.
I pretty much stay in tune to the current scene by friends who comsume more pop culture than I do.
