Dudes/chicks, did you have yours removed? Were you miserable? Any bad experiences?

My upper right is growing sideways and the roots are sticking out of one side of the gum and the tooth is poking out the other side.

My upper left is growing down above my back molar and shoving it down as it grows.

My bottom right is trying to break through and is swelling the gum up above my back molar.

To top that sexy shit off, the bottom right is growing DOWN INTO my jaw and they're going to have to attach a small chain to pull it back up!

They said I'll be in bed for days with the pain because they have to slice the sides of my gums open to rip them from the sockets. Stitches and all.


Advice? Pat on the ass? Farewells?

Had all that done years ago...the slicing open the gums and yanking the wisdom teeth out with pliers and such...Wish I had gone to a dentist, though, instead of payin' the maintenance guy to do it. :O

I got mine taken out the summer of my junior year of high school. They were all impacted, so none of them had emerged yet - they had to slice open my gums too, Jana. It was very painful but I had to go to work a few days after. I've had many friends who got them done on a Friday and were ready and rearing to go once Monday rolled around but not in my case. I had HUGE complications (dry sockets, meaning my gums were not healing and any tissue that tried to form in the holes were being rejected) and was in constant agonizing pain for a month, with daily trips to the oral surgeon to insert wads of gauze soaked in anaseptic into the holes.

These days if I drink a hot beverage (tea mostly), the places where my wisdom teeth used to be ache.

Hope I didn't scare you too much, Jana! godspeed to a fast recovery...

I hate the dentist...as much as I hate Sundays...and I have an appointment myself next week...

I'm lucky. All my wisdom teeth came in and fit perfectly. Maybe I just have a big mouth.

I've never had them done...but, I'm sure they'll give you LOTS of pain meds to help you through the recovery process... take care, sweetie...

My Oma called and made sure I had 4 bags of frozen peas, tons of soup, Ensure (I swear to God... ), and juice/ice/smoothie materials.

Actually, I was put under during the operation...(thank GOD!)...I woke up and it was all over...for several days afterwards, tho, I had to keep wads of cotton balls stuffed in the back of my mouth to act as bandages for the blood...and had enough pain to not want to eat for about 3 days. Not fun, but not as bad as I had feared.

The only time I had pain was during a short time when I inadvertently removed the clot the surgeon wanted left in an area where...I think it either covered the nerves, or kept it from bleeding, something like that. Anyway, the way I removed it was by simply brushing my teeth. It wasn't intentional, and I didn't know I removed it, I just knew there was some discomfort there for a short time. But I went back to the surgeon so they pricked my gums, or whatever the hell they do, so the clot would form again. It didn't hurt. And neither did the surgery - I was out. I'm pretty sure they have to put you to sleep prior to the surgery if they're impacted.






Your description is much worse than my situation. That sounds beyond impacted. A couple of my wisdom teeth were shifting in a perpindicular way instead of parallel to one another. But I don't remember using any pain medication they gave me, not even after removing the clot that was supposed to be there. I had FABULOUS surgeons. Great surgeons make life so much easier when you have to have things like this done.
