Favorite Disaster Movie

I would have to say the Posiden Adventure is my fave. It is much more enjoyable than Titanic.

What's your's? Swarm, Aiport 75, Earthquake, Towering Inferno or something more recent.

Poseidon Adventure is a classic...but I'd say Titanic over it. Can't really think of any recent "disaster" movies in the last, oh, 20 years...lol

The first movie that came to mind was the Poseidon Adventure. But I did watch Airport 75 last year (is that the one with Dean Martin?) and thought it was pretty cool too. The Airport ones are probably my favourites.

Armageddon
Independence Day
Twister
Deep Impact
the Core
Pearl Harbor

I also think that Titanic owes a lot to the non CGI Posiden epic

I left when cborgman left, I just wanted to hold out longer than he did. I also moved and have not found a job yet. The org was sucking the life out of me. Then I thought, well at least I was getting sucked.

Armageddon

There was no disaster...only a possible one...but they avoided it (I think...truthfully, I never really saw that movie...lol...and what little I saw of it bored me, so I could be wrong here)

Independence Day

Guess I didn't think of war movies as "disaster" movies...and Independence Day was, at heart, a war movie...only we were at war with aliens. smile

Twister

Nobody died in it...dunt count...lol wink

Deep Impact

Ok, you got me there...lol

the Core

Didn't see this...anyone die in it?... lol

Pearl Harbor

Again...a war movie...(I make up the rules as I go here...)

I just quoted these in response to, 'Have there been any disaster movies in the past 20 years'. I have only seen Armageddon out of this bunch.

Also add Volcano, Dante's Peak, Meteor, After Shock, Asteriod, Avalanche, When Time Ran Out

Mine is originally a book (which is a million times better than the movie they made about it) but I have to say "The Stand". Mostly because the story and idea of a virus wiping out the majority of life on earth, and what happens to the survivers, is so compelling to me.

In no particular order:

Deep Blue Sea (A disaster leaves the heroes stranded under water - with genetically enhanced sharks. And Thomas Jane is HOT drooling )

Aliens (A disaster leaves the heroes stranded in a colony overrun by Aliens. Vasquez rocks! And Michael Biehn is kinda hot. drool )

Alien Resurrection (A disaster lets Aliens loose on a spaceship. Sigourney Weaver is cool. )

Pitch Black (A disaster leaves the heroes stranded on a not-so-friendly planet. The dialogue rocks! And Cole Hauser is kinda hot. drool )

Titanic (Pretty pictures. Spectacular effects. People dying by the droves - what's not to like?)

Most of these aren’t even "Disaster Movies" yea they are movies with a disaster in them but come on where is the cheese factor, necessary for a good disaster movie.

The Poseidon Adventure is classic

A modern example would be Volcano, but not a patch on the ones from the 70’s.

Towering Inferno - Good
Earthquake – Has to be one of my personal faves
When Time Ran Out – Paul Newman and Jacqueline Bisset – THE BEST!

They have to introduce a cast of misfits including Hero, fit (but pathetic) heroine, old couple (who have been in love forever), young cocky blade, some kind of professional (Doctor, Pilot, Zimmer Frame manufacturer, Fireman) depending on what the plot desires. Plus a few other weaker characters for death fodder and maybe a precocious brat, who you want to die but, alas, never does.

Oh and of course Ernest Borgnine HAS to be in it!
Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

Well, does "Tremors" count then? That's plenty cheesy.

The Blob - the old movie staring Steve Mcqueen. I watched it when I was very young and found it terrifying.
