I think teachers are under appreciated and under paid all together.. These jobs are sooo important to educate young minds and build our world as it will be in the future...
I went to college to become a teacher but stopped pursuing my degree after 2 years..Other needs called in my life.. But i still may go back to school to become a teacher.. That is one of the most rewarding jobs around!!

It's a calling nod if you want to do it you should. Here's the link to the school I went to it's ranked as one of the best schools for teaching in the country. The comute may not be that bad for you if you live in NYC and there are some GREAT teachers there.

SensualMelody

Hey thanks! I taught math in high school for some years. I enjoyed every minute.
But You are right...meager wages...long hours...and many tears for students
in very difficult life-situations..

Hats off to any who care enough and have the stuff to go ino the field.
There are many rewards.
My husband, too, taught math and science. He continues to labour as a principal. (whew!) doh!
Thanks again for the shout out!

So...how's everybody doing? smile

woot! ALT woot!

Thanks for the acknowledgement, Byron--it really means a lot. redface

And, yes, I'm a social worker--a MSW, actually (Master's of Social Work) who does Maternity/Infant Support.

I should start another thread on my latest clients...the Iraqi dad who wants to set me up with one of his friends eek; my Somali client who had her female circumcision reversed (opened back up) so she could try to deliver vaginally; getting one of my methamphetamine-addicted moms into drug treatment; the client who won over $200,000 in the lottery and bought a house (and miraculously seems to be spending the money wisely/investing)

Sometime maybe I will smile

On this same note: good teachers were always my mentors in life, the ones I admired and wanted to emulate and do well for. When things weren't always going so great in my home or personal life as a kid, there was always a favorite teacher with a smile and encouraging words, reassuring me of my brains and abilities, and that some adults were trustworthy.
