What's a port attack? My firewall has just told me about a port attack. It said it came from this adress:
Name: Unknown IP Address: 193.108.93.125 Location: 48.633N, 12.900E Network: RIPE-CBLK Can anyone put a little light on the subject? NOTE: THIS ACCOUNT IS NOW CLOSED. PLEASE CONTACT “K A M L L E”

And no virus blocker. Why not download a trial version of some anti virus software and do a full system sweep. Quarentine the offending file then delete the fucker. I recommend Norton. [This message was edited Tue Oct 21 9:55:18 PDT 2003 by LittlePill]

I just called my mate and he told me that as my firewall told me about it the guy was blocked automatically. I also have AdAware which gets rid of a lot of net nasties. I use that often so I should be ok. Thanks guys. NOTE: THIS ACCOUNT IS NOW CLOSED. PLEASE CONTACT “K A M L L E”

I strongly recommend NOT TO USE NORTON.
I found Norton to be actually worse than the virus I had. The ONLY way to TOTALLY delete every trace of this horrendous program this ***ing thing was to format my hard drive. And this was basically confirmed by an email from Norton themselves that said there really was no way to delete evry trace of it. Bastard thing ! It is basically impossible entirely delete the thing. Unless you plan on having Norton forever inhabiting your system I really advise DONT use it !!! Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

I've been using AVG antivirus 'cause it's free, and seems all legit'. Is it really any good? I'd be well pissed if I had a virus now!
(and yeah, Norton was a pile'o crap for me as well...just slowed my computer down chronic). He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. - Albert Einstein

As for Norton Antivirus - it is good for what it is. It is just an anti-virus tool, useful for blocking email viruses and protecting yourself from stupid users who open attachments etc. It works fine, and it is updated very regularly. Of course, you can't expect installing an antivirus product to solve all your internet security woes. I suggest at least regularly updating Windows (if you use it) with every new service pack and patch, and get yourself a firewall (hardware or software). That at least makes things a bit more tricky the script kiddies, and let's face it, when you are portscanning blocks of IPs (most broadband ISPs have thousands of customers running totally unpatched, insecure Windows boxes - easy targets) you're gonna go for the easy targets first.
