Basil Tea Have any of you ever tried this? I was flippin through some info on treating the common cold (I'm sick as a dog - coughing all day...), and came across a reccomendation for "basil tea".
I just happened to have a bunch of fresh basil in my fridge that I bought for a recipie the other day, so for the hell of it, I tried it. I was pretty suprised, it actually tastes really good! Almost like an anise or licoriche. I added a drop of honey just for a little sweetness. And it cleared up my throat quite a bit, so I'm not coughing as much. Pretty cool stuff. Any other home remedies like this that work for the cold??

mmm ... I love the taste of basil
the only remedies I know are taking eucalyptus leaves and putting them in a bowl of hot water then putting your head over the bowl with a towel over the top, to clear conjestion. I take vitamin C and echinacia (sp?) when I feel a cold coming on. I remember my grandmother boiling up onions when I was a child - I can't remember whether I ate them or smelled them, but that was an old English remedy that was used in my family

The last time i had a sore throat, i ate chicken soup with loads of Tabasco, then made tea with the juice of 2 fresh lemons, sliced ginger, and a tablespoon or so of honey. I went to bed, and woke up feeling great the next morning. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista
