The work ethics here alone is making us want 2 return back home!!
This time every year we are always having the rug pulled out from under us and my husbands type of work just dries up and there is just nothing work-wise for him and he ends up with crappy small temp jobs. We gave allowances when we first came here in 2001 with firms and agencies blaming 9/11, but PLEASE get over it, it happened, yes, but Britain just does not want 2 move on!!! Also Britain pays too much mind on Christmas, whereas in the USA, yes, they give emphasis on Christmas, but then for the Americans its just one day, then its back 2 business as usual!! U could even go for an interview and start a new job the day before Christmas over there, but not here!!! NEVER has my husband been laid off from work at the same time every year when we lived in the USA!!! Also here we are taxed up our asses here!! I just paid, this weekend our car tax and for 6 months its £90($160) and for a year its about £180($260), which I think is total outrageous!! If the Americans paid that much for road tax there would b riots in the streets!!! I could go on and on!!

Actually I have to agree to some extent, especially on the tax.
My partner and I get taxed to death. I always thought that I would never complain about paying a lot of tax, but it is distressing sometimes to be taxed so high and not feel your money is going where you want it to. I love Britain. I really think it's the best place in the world to live ... when it's running right. But so many things in this country are pissing me off right now. The Police Force is top of my list right now. They seem to be going for soft targets (driving offences etc) rather than looking for criminals. The reason? Money of course. They'd rather issue fines and gain revenues than actually beat crime. And then there's Tony Blair (better not go into this one or the thread will get moved to the politics forum) ... needless to say I've been a lifelong labour supporter. I won't vote for him next time though. What's the point of electing someone who doesn't listen to the electorate. Grrr I'm starting to rant ... I'd better finish.

Definitely, cars a LOT cheaper to run in the US. But of course, you need them more over there. As for the other things... that's a shame - what kind of work is your husband in (if I may ask)?
