From another site:

Brendan Behan, Irish Playwright.

By 1963 Behan had developed diabetes, and this disease, combined with his refusal to stop drinking, contributed to his death. Brendan died March 20th, 1964, at the Meath Hospital, just months after his wife Beatrice had given birth to their first child, a daughter, Blanaid Orla Marghead Behan.

Rene MacColl of the Daily Express wrote : "Too young to die, but too drunk to live".

I think that should be bkw's new signature!

F. Scott Fitzgerald [1896-1940] American Author - Legendary boozer suffered a heart attack while working as a screenwriter in Hollywood for a couple of hundred bucks a week. According to John O’Hara, Fitz died "a prematurely old little man haunting bookshops unrecognized." [Editor’s Note: Zelda died in a fire at an Asheville, North Carolina, mental hospital in 1948.]

The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite books.

The Russian poet and writer Aleksandr Pushkin died in a duel in 1837.

He managed to get a shot off after he was hit, but didn't seriously wound his opponent.

It was on T.V the other day. Robert Redford and Mia Farrow are brilliant. He is just how I pictured Gatsby when I read the book and she is perfect as Daisy.

Yeah, great casting! nod

The other F. Scott Fitzgerald book that was made into an excellent film was The Last Tycoon with Robert De Niro.

It's DeNiro in probably his most restrained role, but as brilliant as always. It's a must see imho.
