Post song lyrics that you find particularly meaningful

Learn From This Mistake - Down

I've come so close, it's almost hard to believe
When you're up close, it blinds you brilliantly
Just one rush can change your life forever
Just one push can end it all together

Why can't we learn from the plague that surrounds us
Learn from my mistakes
Learn from this mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from their mistakes

There's no shoulder to cry on when you have no shame
There's no finger to point when you are to blame
Open book, in my eyes shows you rain, then storming
I can't look, when covered by the nothing and the suffering

Learn from my mistakes
Learn from this mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from their mistakes
Learn from my mistake

Believe me, all my friends, in the ending of the story
There's no junkie out there with a happy ending
It consumes you, and haunts you like the devil
It's the art of the process that kills off all the rebels

Learn from this mistake
Learn from my mistake
Learn from our mistake
Learn from my mistake...

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor...would you be mine? Could you be mine?

This song is apparently about the time that Phil died of a Heroin overdose.

Never be afraid to love, never be afraid to just be. You've got to Cast away the chains of doubt and have the courage to be free. Don't cloud your eyes with others lies, see only what you want to see. Just duplicate this simple truth and have the courage to be free...Open your eyes, you can fly

PJ Harvey - "Horses in My Dreams"

Horses in my dreams
Like waves, like the sea
They pull out of here
They pull, they are free

Rode a horse around the world
Along the tracks of a train
Broke the record, found the gold
Set myself free again

I have pulled myself clear

Horses in my dreams
Like waves, like the sea
On the tracks of a train
Set myself free again

I have pulled myself clear

One song that really got to me was Funkin For Fun by Parliament. From what I can tell it's about Glenn Goins (the lead singer at this point) who had terminal cancer.

"Funkin' For Fun"

Ooooh, hooo!
Hey, yeah
Haaa
I got to go
Got to leave
Something's missing
That I need

I need to find it
Whatever it is
That's burdening my mind
I know mother will understand, yeah
I know she knows that I'm still the same man

They say bring up a child in the way he shall go
And he shall not depart
And I know when they said it, it turns my heart

Hey, hey, hey, hoo
Guy, guy guy guy guyeee (x4)

Don't worry
Don't!
Worry 'bout me (don't worry)
I'm just funkin' around
For fun

When you see my mother
Don't!
Worry 'bout me (Tell her don't worry)
I'm just funkin' around (ai, ai)
For fun

Ohhh, nothing could compare
To my mother, nah, nah, nah, because I know she cared, yeah
I got to find my own way around
Hey, hey, I got to get down, yeah

Guy, guy guy guy guyeee (x4)

Don't worry
Don't!
Worry 'bout me (don't worry)
I'm just funkin' around
For fun

Don't worry
Don't!
Worry 'bout me
I'm just funkin' around
For fun

When you see my mother
Hey, if you have a chance to see my father, my brother
Just tell 'em, that everything's all right
Hey, anytime
You find people assemble in the same place
Funkin' around
Everything's all right

Hey, hey
I don't think you heard me (coo coo ca choo) (say what)
Heyy, whooo (coo coo ca choo)
Owww, whoooaaa, aiii, hooo!

If you see my mother (when you see my mother)
Tell her I'm all right
Tell her I'm all right
Just funkin' around
For fun

When you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right
I'm just funkin' around
For fun

When you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right (tell her you saw me and everything's all right)
I'm just funkin' around
For fun

Let's funk around
Hey!
Funk me, baby
Let's funk around
Hey

If you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right
Tell her I'm all right
Just funkin' around
For fun
Yeah, ah, ah, ah oohh!

If you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right
Tell her I'm all right
Just funkin' around
For fun
(x2)

When you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right
Tell her I'm all right
Just funkin' around
For fun

Having a good time
I'm funking around for fun
I'm having a good, good good time, yeah
Playing my guitar
Funking around for fun

Giving up the P.Funk
Ahh, the Bomb

When you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right (tell her everything's all right)
Tell her I'm all right
Just funkin' around
For fun

If you see my mother
(tell her that I met a man called Dr. Funkenstein and everything's all right)
Tell her I'm all right
Tell her I'm all right
Just funkin' around
For fun

If you see my mother
Tell her I'm all right (the P.Funk)
Tell her I'm all right (the bomb)
Just funkin' around
For fun

Owww!!!

I swear to God this song is the reason I was EXTREMELY careful not to bring any children into the world at an early age or get married. So in otherwords this song has always abeen particularly meaninful to ME.

THE RIVER
By Bruce Springsteen

I come from down in the valley
where mister when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
when she was just seventeen
We'd ride out of that valley down to where the fields were green

We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we'd ride

Then I got Mary pregnant
and man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
No flowers no wedding dress

That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we did ride

I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care

But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
Down to the river
my baby and I
Oh down to the river we ride

Hallelujah

There are all kinds of things I could ask you if I chose
But I don't do I dear good intentions don't survive here
No instead my requests tend to be dumb as hell
Move in close, closer still, I hear the songs of Georgie Gershwin
I swear at you 'cos I believe that sweet talk like candy rots teeth

No Hallelujahs, or gifted voices
To sing your praises I'd be walking on wheels
No whoops or war crys or caramias
All translations will read "Marry me now"

Well I sing to express my belief that sweet talk like candy rots teeth
With his hand on his heart, it's a posing place
While draining the mystery from your face
He admits all he's chasing is the chase
But you won't let him run

You make him suffer for all he's gone done
He'll still be hurting when the kingdom comes

Move in close till you see, he only wants what he can't have
So when he gets it he's good as bad
Move in close, closer still, I hear the songs of Georgie Gershwin
Oh Hallelujah, how I'm walking on wheels

For me, nothing beats these old lyrics:

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
(George Weiss / Bob Thiele)

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

"It's not really poetry, but it's pretty," he said.
As he raises his voice, she lowers her head.
"It makes my heart heavy, you're lonely, I think.
Oh, Rose, you're sad, I suppose."
"Look in her bed and she's bound to be sleeping.
She's lying there dead. - No, she's breathing."
Furious Rose, with your opiate eyes,
your languorous hum, that tone of surprise
I've heard energy in adversity.
Your smile: the soul of witchery.
You're not running away,
You're not running - are you?
Lyrically longing, she's tearing the words from the page.
She's fearfully seething.
"Bring me your blessings, a prayer, or a new pen.
- You don't know what I need."
"Look in my bed and I'm bound to be sleeping,
I'm lying there dead, but I'm breathing.
And I'm barely balancing as it is,
And I don't want to drown in my dreams
Bring me wild plums and agrimony
I bet you don't even know what that means."
Furious Rose with your opiate eyes,
Your languorous hum, that tone of surprise.
I've heard energy in adversity.
Your smile: the soul of witchery.
You're not running away,
you're not running - are you?
Gingerly peering, over his shoulder, removed herself from the room.
She's terribly freezing, she always knows when to go.

Anna Begins--Counting Crows

My friend assures me, "It's all or nothing,"
I am not worried--I am not overly concerned
My friend implores me, "For one time only,
make an exception." I am not worried
Wrap her up in a package of lies
Send her off to a coconut island
I am not worried--I am not overly concerned
with the status of my emotions
"Oh,", she says, "you're changing."
But we're always changing

It does not bother me to say this isn't love
Because if you don't want to talk about it then it isn't
love
And I guess I'm going to have to live with that
But I'm sure there's
something in a shade
of grey,
Something in between,
And I can always
change my name
If that's what you
mean

My friend assures me, "It's all or nothing."
But I am not really worried
I am not overly concerned
You try to tell yourself the things you try to tell
yourself
To make yourself forget
I am not worried
"If it's love," she said, "then we're going to have to
think about the consequences."
She can't stop shaking
I can't stop touching her and...

This time when kindness falls like rain
It washes her away and Anna begins to change her
mind
"These seconds when I'm shaking leave me shuddering
for days," she says
And I"m not ready for this sort of thing

But I'm not going to break
And I'm not going to worry abut it anymore
I'm not going to bend, and I'm not going to break and
I'm not going to worry about it anymore
It seems like I should say, "As long as this is love..."
But it's not all that easy so maybe I should
Snap her up in a butterfly net
Pin her down on a photograph album
I am not worried
I've done this sort of thing before
But then I start to think about the consequences
Because I don't get no sleep in a quiet room...

The time when kindness
falls like rain
It washes me away and
Anna begins to change
my mind
And everytime she
sneezes I believe it's
love and
Oh lord, I"m not ready
for this sort of thing

She's talking in her sleep
It's keeping me awake and Anna begins to toss and turn
And every word is nonsense but I understand and
Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing

Her kindness bangs a gong
It's moving me along and Anna begins to fade away
It's chasing me away--she disappears and
Oh lord, I'm not ready for this sort of thing

You put your right foot in
you put your right foot out
you put your right foot in
and you shake it all about
you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around

MADONNA ~ "Love Tried To Welcome Me"

These are my hands, but what can they give me?
These are my eyes, but they cannot see
These are my arms, but they don't know tenderness
And I must confess that I am usually drawn to sadness
And loneliness has never been a stranger to me, but

Chorus:

Love tried to welcome me
But my soul drew back
Guilty of lust and sin
Love tried to take me in

These are my lips, but they whisper sorrow
This is my voice, but it's telling lies
I know how to laugh, but I don't know happiness
And I must confess, instead of spring, it's always winter
And my heart has always been a lonely hunter, but still

Chorus2:

Love tried to welcome me
But my soul drew back
I was covered with dust and sin
Love tried to take me in

Love tried to break me

And I must confess, instead of spring, it's always winter
And my heart has always been a lonely hunter, but still

(chorus, inserting "I was" before "Guilty")
(chorus2, removing "I was")

[Love tried to break me]
Love tried to welcome me
But my soul drew back
Guilty of lust and sin
[I was covered with dust, covered with sorrow]
Love tried to take me in
[Covered]

Still, love tried to welcome me
But my soul drew back
[Guilty of lust and sin]
Covered with dust and sin
Love tried to take me in

[Love tried to break me]
Love tried to welcome me
[Love tried to welcome me]
But my soul drew back
Guilty of lust and sin
[But my soul drew back]
Love tried to take me in
[I was covered with sadness]

Love tried to welcome me (fade)

The Smiths
"Asleep"

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore

Sing to me
Sing to me
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore

Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go

There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well ...

Bye bye

Applekisses and DudeDrops' songs just reminded me of one I haven't listened to in awhile. I used to love these lyrics.

Peter Murphy--His Circle and Hers Meet

As if afloat
As if afraid
The spirits meet
Waited for an age
It was a lesson sent

Abstract and numbed
Abstract and bleak
Patience lent
His test of patience lent

Horizontal yet erect
Yearning lying in wait
Oneness floats about
Unity served on his plate

Circling round about
The lover he will meet
Dripping mellow stains of long
MMM Melting in her heat

The lover he must meet
Circling round about
Driping mellow stains of long
Melting in her heat

Without a blink
Without a sigh
His circle and hers meet
Synchronised split
Split seconds beat

She killed his past
With her kiss
All past was but a lie
She killed his head
She killed his mouth
And opened up the sky

She killed his past
With her kiss
All past was but a lie
She killed his head
She killed his mouth
The he-she joining
The moment now
Would be the only sound
No front no back
No present tense
No milk from no holy cow

She killed his past
With her kiss
All past was but a lie
She killed his head
She killed his mouth
And opened up the sky
