Need advice!!

I was asked back in March or so to be a reader at a wedding (former coworker) this December. I accepted but then got the hotel/travel options and I just so can't afford to go!! For two nights i'll be shelling out like $600 (not including the wedding gift!) and to me that's way too much money! I have to tell them I can't go but don't know how to tactfully do it...I'm afraid they aren't going to speak to me -- urgh...i hate predicaments like this. PLease help!!!

Just be upfront and honest with them, I think..."I'd really love to attend your wedding, but unfortunately I right now I can't afford to.."...If they stop speaking to you because of that, then you're better off not having their presence in your life anyway...

Explain the situation...expressing a desire to live up to the committment you made.
There may be other options. There may be someone else in the wedding with similar
circumstances who would share room/expenses.
Wedding gift??? Be practical. Your presence would be the biggest present you could give.

No, you should tell them as soon as possible so that they have time to find someone else to do the reading in your place if needs be.

You know what hun? It is better to do it in person if they are near. If not on the phone... Be brave. It is not really a confrontation. The outcome will be better than you think.
