UK Peeps - Derren Brown

Did anyone watch Derren Brown playing Russian Roulette live tonight? I wanna know what you thought - did he get it wrong by thinking it was bullet no 5?

I thought so too ... I just wondered if he got himself up shit creek, cos he couldn't tell which of the two barrels the round was in.

The rest of the show was really good I thought

I know it sounds bad but it was a real anti-climax. This sounds terrible but I wanted him 2 shoot himself just so that it wouldnt be predictable. Forgive me.

hug eheheh, I thought that might be the case.

It was mainly about psychology Lleena 2 be honest. The actual ordeal lasted about 3 minutes and 2 be honest I didnt think he'd shoot himself, well at least I didnt get that 'good grief' feeling.

I switched over very late from another channel where there was something of much greater interest (to me at least).

He had already stated in public that he was performing a 'trick' so the whole thing looked rather comical and false as I tuned in at bullet #4 onwards.

I heard him on the radio (Chris Moyles 4 my sins, no choice at work) saying that if he had any doubts, he would not pull the trigger. With that in my mind, I couldn't be arsed watching.

Me & my mates found something far sicker - The Dating Channel. Real car crash TV. It's these poor freaky fuckers begging 4 love. Can anyone appear dignified as they say things like "I like to chill...I chill a lot, actually" or "I enjoy fun". It's twisted entertainment.

Half the screen has been given over 2 text messages. My friends & I have been getting very drunk and testing the boundaries of acceptable messages. We had a 40% success rate with getting them to post our messages.

Have to admit, we did get slightly evil in places. My flatmate wasn't allowed to say he'd killed someone in a war or that he wanted someone to mop up his pork tears but I managed to say I'd just got out of prison & wanted anything with a backbone and I also got some other stuff up there which I really wouldn't admit too.

If u were watching, apologies.

The whole thing was a con, right from the start. He was never gonna blow his head off...he knew where the bullet was all the time.

It's magic, slight of hand, a radio mic in his ear or someone in the audience telling him which barrel it's in.

It was all spin and PR, i like seeing those magicians that blow the lid off those stunts, shows us all how it's done and how it's all a con to pull us in.

Nothing is real anymore, everwhere i look it's fake people saying and doing fake things.

In that case, I don't think he did it very well ... I just got the impression he'd cocked up and couldn't tell which barrel it was in ... so much for melodrama

He got it wrong and ... blowup

... naaah biggrin

It was a bit of a non-event really.

Most of the show was about how he picked the guy who was gonna load the gun.

About 5 minutes of it was him pulling the trigger. The other guy put a bullet in one of the chambers and he then put the gun to his head and started pulling the trigger.

The only thing I didn't get was that he seemed to bottle it half way through, and aimed the gun at a bag of grain instead. It didn't go off. Then he put it to his head one more time and then shot at the bag of grain again with his final shot, and the bullet went through it.

But, he did seem nervous at the point he first aimed away, and I'm not sure whether it was part of the act, or whether he got it totally wrong and couldn't figure out where the bullet was.

Well as an illusionist, I think Derren Brown is actually pretty good in his other shows and he's far more interesting than "magicians" such as David Blaine. At least Brown is always very honest about his techniques etc.

Did anyone see the show where he had some advertising execs make an advert for him, to a spec, and they basically came up with EXACTLY what he had drawn earlier? All subliminal suggestions on the ad execs taxi journey over to the office... I thought that was great smile Kinda makes a mockery of the creative process a bit though haha.

As for the russian roulette... even though I knew there was a trick in there somewhere, it was good TV. The big pause was probably intended for dramatic effect but it was still a real gun with a live round (as shown by when he fired it away from himself) so you can't blame the guy for being cautious.

Yeah! That blew my mind: amazing the way they had put it all 2gether. That was so good. nod

Let's forget the discussion about if it was real or not.
I tuned in for the final 10 minutes and it was great TV.
A part of me was hoping that he would blow his brains out, luckily he didn't.
