I'm gonna rant for a bit.

I'm not very gifted with flowery language. I tend to say exactly what I mean, I'm a direct, sincere person and that is sometimes taken as abrasive. Sometimes I'm just plain rude

Anyway I've been a part of the Org since the beginning. I had no desire to be the "sheriff" around here, but I took on the task of moderating because of a genuine desire to improve the Org experience for myself and the majority of positive people that post here. I haven't done a perfect job, but I have put a lot of time into it, and I can definitely say I've done my best.

There'll always be moderator decisions that people disagree with. We do our best with what we have. If I've exchanged sharp words with any of you, or if I've offended you, I apologise but you shouldn't take it personally. I like to think that I've never avoided a direct question put to me, I've always made myself accountable. I hope so anyway.

I'm not a fan of censorship, and I try not to stifle discussion too much. My two goals in moderating is just to keep the peace and promote good discussion. I do hope that the site is better because of our moderating efforts.

Some of problems we had on the site in recent times really amaze me. It astounds me that people can be so inconsiderate towards others and try so hard to ruin the site for the rest of us. This tiny minority of abusive users work overtime flaming, trying to ruin every thread. The killer for me last night was when someone was trying to hijack Applekisses's thread about breast cancer - what the f*ck? What kind of person can read a heartfelt post from a woman talking about her mastectomy and then try to engage in petty point-scoring and insults? Incredible. That event, more than any other, convinced me that web forums *do* need to be moderated. It isn't perfect but it's a step in the right direction, I feel.

I admit, Ian is doing a great job. And guess what - I'm still here!!!
