now, now children Personally, I didn't find Essence's post offensive. It was fairly humerous and lightened the tone of the thread, like so many postings by other people lighten the tone of other threads ... plus, he couldn't know that the post following his would be of a serious nature. And on the other side ... I don't think applekisses' title was too frivilous for the subject matter. I realised as soon as I opened the post that it was a serious thread, addressing a real issue. Diplomat ... moi? now kiss and make up please ... or at least let's get this thread back to the purpose it was intended for ... ie discussion on the subject of breast cancer awareness, whether that includes lighthearted comments or not ... pleeeaaase???

Ok...NOW...back to the topic at hand...
I haven't had my first mammogram yet...and I'm not looking forward to it...I've heard how painful it is (hence the title of this thread.) Can any ladies who've had them tell us mammogram virgins what it's like? [This message was edited Sat Oct 4 17:38:00 PDT 2003 by applekisses]

Thanks, Ian. No worries... that's what I'm here for Back to the topic... I wish I could get my wife to take this issue seriously. I'm gonna get some websites on the subject and make her read them! Recommendations welcome.

Boob Exam Report of the Day:
In the hot, steamy shower this morning (which is where they recommend women perform their breast exams), I lifted my right arm above my head and with the fingers of the left hand, began to knead my firm, ample (38D) breast in a circular motion, feeling for any unusual lumps or abnormalities... Shall I go on...?

A friend of mine is going for her mammogram today and reminded me of this:
If you click a button on this Web page: http://www.thebreastcance...s/CTDSites You can actually help fund free mammograms for underprivleged women. The sponsors/advertisers pay for each click and that adds up quickly to pay for mammogram vouchers that are distributed to women who need them. Together during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have an opportunity to give the gift of early detection to more women than ever. We need your help in getting the word out. During October, your daily clicks on the "Fund Free Mammograms" button give twice the usual amount of funding toward free mammograms for women in need. In addition, we're proud to share the uplifting story of Laura Jensen Walker, a breast cancer survivor who not only overcame breast cancer with a postive outlook and an amazing sense of humor, but used her cancer experience as a catalyst to follow her dreams. Every other day, we'll update the site with a new excerpt from Laura's book, Thanks for the Mammogram!, along with personal commentary from the author. Check back regularly for updates, and encourage others to follow along as well. See the link to this special feature on the page that loads immediately after you make your daily click. Thank you for your support!

dustysgirl said: I'm 31 years old and just had a mastectomy two weeks ago for invasive breast cancer. My tumor was found by myself. I'm too young for routine mammograms. I face six months of chemo, six weeks of radiation, and then reconstruction surgery. I don't drink, smoke, I'm not overweight, had three kids in my early 20's...I'm very low risk. But look what happened anyway. If I wouldn't have found that lump myself, I cringe to think where I would be next April when I go for my next annual checkup. Nobody thinks they could have breast cancer when they are only 30.

At least it's quick. When you've got big ones, it's longer and more embarrassing.

Mine are not so big either. Let me tell you they squish those babies. Size does not matter. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^
