Question of the day (About suicide again )

This is just a thinking question...

if murder is murder and murder is illegal, why should they make it legal to murder yourself ? In my eyes murder is murder and it's wrong rather you do it to your self or anybody else neutral

saying this as a healthy person, if I were to become terminally ill, I would want to have the freedom (?) to end my life if it mean avoiding unspeakable pain and burden for my family..but then, that is what a living will is for, to some extent...

Committing suicide is illegal in the states and if you attempt to do so and the authorities can stop you you will be charged, usually.

Ok, hell-oh, but what good would it do to arrest, prosecute and sentence someone who is that depressed?!

At most, mandate counseling/treatment, but punishing someone who intentionally hurt only themselves the same way as you'd punish someone who attempted to murder someone else is just not appropriate. disbelief

of course they would be arrested and probably end up in a mental ward instead of a reg jail/prison...

I bet for most people, a short inpatient stay and then follow-up outpatient treatment would be appropriate.

Yeah I wonder if it's that easy though... If your a danger to yourself or others they probably hold you for who knows how long.. I knew a guy who lost his mind (long story made short) and killed his mom in an act of rage... he has been in one of those places for years and doesn't know when he will get out... the wild thing is he doesn't even remember doing it...

Well, I don't think anything to do with mental health is easy. But I thought this thread was about suicidal people, not homicidal people. People who were terminally ill or depressed, not literally out of their minds? nuts

That's a whole other topic...

Very tough one, but I completely believe in voluntary euthanasia (sp) If I knew I had a disease there was no cure for and would severely damage MY quality of MY life and deteriorate and deteriorate til I couldn't do anything for myself and eventually die anyway, I would rather end my life peacefully while I was still able to enjoy the 'simple' things instead of putting myself and my family through what I am sure is absolute torture...

I understand murder is murder, but the reason it is so horrific is that you are deciding someone elses fate and robbing them of their life. With suicide it is your life you are taking and while it is not a nice thing at the end of the day it is up to you and I am sure that the decision, for what ever reason is not made when that person feels there are other options open to them.

So you also believe abortion is murder?

I agree with Ladymisskat; good post.

If people are allowed to fuck up other people's lives in the eye of the law, then it should be legal to end your OWN life as you wish...

The way I see it is... you didn't decide to come unto this earth, so why should you decide when it's your time to go? I think when it's in the term of a life or death situation, that should be left up to your maker to decide, not you. Sucide is a very self-fish thing in my eyes. IT don't only effect you, but it also effect those around you. neutral
