this stuff is incredible!

and scary all at the same time.

how bad is this for me? what is a safe amount? will this odd buzzed feeling pass?

I've been a coffee junkie for years, but I decided to start cutting out caffeine last month and I've been doing a pretty good job of it. I had caffeine headaches and was tired and draggy for a few days, but now I'm feeling pretty good - what little caffeine I consume comes from chai tea and the tiny amount that is in decaf coffee, but otherwise I get my energy from juice and yerba mate tea.

So to answer your question - enjoy the buzz, it's not hard to kick the habit when you wanna, and there are some good alternatives out there.

I mix decaf and regular 50/50 in my coffee pot each morning. It gives me just enough kick when I'm on my way to work, without giving me jitters.

At my worst, roughly 3 years ago, I was doing 5 double tall Lattes with 4 shots a day. Then I cut back to just a pot of regular coffee per day. Now I can barely get through 2 without getting naucious. I guess I'm getting week in my old age.

That's a clue that it isn't good for you in the long run.

I've been trying to kick caffeine for a while. It's HARD, especially since chocolate has caffeine in it. Soon it wont work anymore. You'll crash after a short buzz. I would say don't get hooked. The sugar is a big deal too. Sugar is sooo terrible for you. For real. These are very powerful drugs, as you can see from your experience. Physical addiction is a lot harder to quit than the psychological addiction I think we both share..

stoned

I gotta cut back on that...

Anyway, don't mean to spoil anyone's day or make anyone out to be wrong. I read The Diet Cure and it has lots of info about how caffeine and sugar deteriorates your brain chemistry over time. I'm 31 and I wish I NEVER got started with caffeine and sugar. I'm only mentioning this because I feel it's just as important as saying "you should drink 8 glasses of water a day." And trust me, I'm not perfect. I got my first migraine that made me puke yesterday.

eyepop WOW.

I commend you on cutting down on coffee. clapping

Part of it IS getting older, but the truth is your body can't really handle it at any age. When we are younger our defenses are stronger, that's all. We run them down.

I used to LOVE lattes, but I rarely had more than 1 a day. Now I can't have one without major stomach upset. Again, that book, The Diet Cure, talks about what your body needs instead of caffeine to "get going". It's kind of a natural way to rebuild your body/brain chemistry using vitamins, amino acid supplements and changing your diet.
