I would love to go to Tuscany... *smile* I just saw the film "Under the Tuscan Sun" yesterday, excellent movie.
Diane Lane has long been a favorite actress of my mine, her character in this film was fabulous.
It's about... An American lawyer (Lane) quits her stressful job and travels to Tuscany, Italy looking for a new life, deciding to buy a derelict villa near the village of Cortona. While rebuilding her new home and learning how to live in another country, she finds a new start on life... and love (Bova). Her life in the film, I can't help but see myself within the script, almost to a T. I laughed, I cried, I A must see... the scenery and location is absolutely breathtaking. I want to go. So my question is... how many of you would pick up anew, I mean literally start over, even leave the country. I would and will one day (I feel it). I am not talking about regrets, just that innate sense to experience life. How many of you have done just that?
Lives with or without family is welcomed, share please.
Ps~ Phoenixxx is doing just that, I commend her strength and courage to search and live life, she is moving to Phoenix. I wish her a safe trip.

What a great thread.
I'm a homebody...but I can definitely see picking up and relocating to Lebanon:
or Greece.
Its my mother's heritage and I've always wanted to learn more about my ancestors. It would definitely be challenging, but a wonderful experience. I don't have any children, but I'd try to convince my guy to come along

Yes. I want to do this. I want to move to New Zealand.
I have a plan to get there. My ideal is to become self sufficient, living off the land, growing my own food, solar powered home, totally eco friendly. A simple life, totally consumed with nature. Living with trees in a forest/wood. The breath taking country that is New Zealand. I have not been. I have only seen in photos and on the TV. I will live there. I feel you Freespirit. Love to you. Do what your heart desires, I say ![]()

My wife is going to visit Tuscany on her trip to Italy next week. It does look beautiful. I hope she doesn't get the idea of staying there.

I have done such a thing many times! For as long as I can remember, (literally--I was chosen to take French language lessons in 3rd grade) I have been intrigued by other cultures and languages and ways of being other than my own. I took about 6 yrs of French, 2 years of Latin and I plan to take on Spanish ASAP! So, this inborn interest went hand in hand with the love of travel. I was an exchange student to a Greek island the summer I was 16. I moved to Washington state to do some of my undergrad work in my early 20s, and then for my senior year of college, I attended Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. I lived, worked and attended school there. Before I moved to Seattle last year (it was 1 yr ago 9/26), I had accepted a government position with Child Protective Services in Dublin, Ireland, and fully intended to transplant myself there indefinitely. Apparently, it was not meant to be, though, because the employment agency that did the hiring was very unorganized and I ended up declining their offer. So, I found this amazing job here in Seattle instead. I also lived for about 3 months in the San Francisco area, house/petsitting for a friend for several months. I almost stayed, but grad school and the practicalities of finances/cost of living in the Bay won out. I go where I feel drawn, integrating my own personal/professional goals. I have never moved because of, or for, a relationship...

Julie, Colette, Carrie, everyone, thanks for sharing your desires to truly live and take the leaps that make life worth living.
I am 21 and have only lived on my own for about a year and a half, but for months, there has been a new stirring inside of me to take off and finally be on my own, completely. I've only been out of the state twice (both in the past year) and know almost nothing but the "California lifestyle" firsthand. The thought of the fresh new start makes me unable to sleep many nights... but I don't care. It's a great feeling... the one where you know a new beginning is coming closer and closer to you. Don't you love it? I live in Sacramento, CA and grew up in the north bay and the wine country (northern CA), near the ocean. I have several ideas... * San Francisco - I've found affordable rentals there, and the hustle and bustle of the city life would really put things into perspective for me... that the world does not revolve around me. Also, the many times I've been there, I have met so many awesome beings. There are so many different kinds of people there- it's the most diverse city I've ever experienced. The "crowdedness" there has a certain beauty to it and it's so eclectic and educational, to say the least. Not to mention the fact that it's beautiful (plus, it's still close to "home" so it wouldn't be as drastic as moving out of state, for example). I know it's not far, but the atmosphere there is a huge change from the valley and the wine country. It's like a different world there in the bay. * Seattle - What can I say? I love cold, rainy weather, it's cheaper to live, it's near BC, it's beautiful, it's still near the ocean, and so much more. * Germany - I have family there, and a move like that would really do wonders for me. The change would be extreme and would benefit me in so many ways... not to mention the beauty of the land and the culture I should identify more with. It's not the same country my Opa immigrated from decades ago, that's a fact. I've got many, many ideas, but SF sounds the most practical for now. Eventually, I'd love to live around the globe. Hopefully, I will stay single for a long time if not forever, because I'm the type of soul who needs complete freedom of choice. That's selfish to some... but it's not meant like that in any way. Just the type of person I am. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

Winters are relatively mild, and if you want snow, you can drive an hour and it's there. We've got the mountains and the ocean, too, but compared to Cali, it's sooo green and lush here! Last thing: I no longer am truly afraid of the unknown (geographically, at least) because I know myself so well and what amazing things I am capable of, and I have come to realize no matter what, I'll be okay...
