I suggest you do a google search using the words 'germs', 'disease' and 'common house fly'.

Um, are you OK? I don't know you, but you seem a little testy today as compared to other posts of yours that I've seen.

I think both are grody (yeah, I said grody), but they are living creatures that deserve a chance as well. Its kind of gross though when a fly lands on your food and you're eating it, don't you think?

Flies spread disease and get into our garbage - insect vultures.

Spiders eat flies and other insects (environmental control).

I generally don't kill either. We had some dangerous hobo spiders in our place in Utah though, whose bites can result in hospitalization for months. Since I have 2 roommates, I thought it best to kill them, even though I felt guilty.

You know what I hate? Flies are buzzin around, so you go get the flyswatter, newspaper, whatever and from that point on the lil bastids DON'T LAND AT ALL!!

Kinda makes me like the hairspray and lighter option.

Y'all are a murderous bunch...

Although I'm not overly keen on insects flapping or crawling around my home, I just put them outside in the garden if I see them. No need to kill anything.

..

i am very passionate about this, and totally understand
your case, with the hobo spiders, it was a question of health and safety.
and i am sure that the spiders were exterminated humanely
i just dont dig the senselessness of people killing something
that offers them no real threat

if you aint gonna eat it, wear it and if it isn't going to kill you
then leave it alone.

fear of insects and animals in general is totally irrational and doesn't
warrant their death. in these times of mass industrialization, of the destruction of the rainforests
of the pollution of our natural resources
the more we kill nature the more we alienate ourselves from our humanity

Spiders help mankind by making those neat, intricate webs, that people always get their faces caught in. Pure party fun.

Flies just buzz around and live for sitting on shit and the intestines of dead rats. Sure, maggots are cute, but so is a black widow bite. Red welts go well with the Christmas decorations.

lol Be nice to spiders, or suffer my wrath.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Another fun fact- A spider web is one of the strongest materials known to mankind. It's six time stronger than steel. The military has been trying to manufacture spiderwebs to use for uniforms. They even have attempted creating spider farms, which was unsuccessful because the spiders started eating each other, instead they opted to try and create a synthetic version of the web.

No, feed the flies to the spiders(drop them on a spider web). You get a live documentary.

I can't be having people laughing and having fun and shit on my watch, dammit!

But y'know, I've scoped theC's threads for any signs of intelligence of sentience... the jury is still out as to whether they are deserving of life or not!

Actually, my cats are expert fly killers and get them within seconds every time. They even eat them too. Must taste good. Every cat I've ever had though will catch a spider, try to eat it, and then spit it out. They must taste bitter or something. biggrin

i was just trying to make moonbeam feel better
i have already been snipped once in this thread

i accept that with life comes death,
and in the grand scheme of things
i am not prepared to let anyone i care about get hurt by something
i can control
in this case the spiders were a threat and
i feel that moonbeams did the right thing and i would hope
that he employed professional measures
that would ensure the most quickest death possible
