FRATERNITIES AND SORIORITIES AINT NO JOKE MAN!!! I went and I did it!!  I signed up for Kappa Alpha Psi  I just may be a KAPPA SWEETHEART  I cant believe I did it!! I cant believe I, Cherrie, may be apart of a friggin soriority  ...thats usually not my thing  ...I kinda did it on impulse, you know?  They said there was gonna be no hazing, but I heard the girls had really messed up attitudes  I aint no punk man, I will NOT let any chic try to boss me   But, what's gonna happen to CHERRIE is she becomes a KAPPA SWEETHEART? *faint* &  | |

Just keep ur chin high & don't let those other girls get 2 u Cherrie.If memory serves me correctly being in a soriority can do u a WHOLE MESS of good when u get out of college.It looks good 2 most employers if u were,especially if they were in the same or affiliated one.  but only do it if u feel comfortable.

back in the day they were excellent tools for "networking" yourself into a great career... nowadays? well...there is statistical proof that you are actually at a economic disadvantage by going to college... so use college for what its best at, education. learn your social skills in a more realistic setting and leave the kids games to kids... Kappa Sweethearts are not a sorority, they are an interest group for the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Black sororities have a socio-political and cultural history and agenda that extends far beyond being "sweethearts" for a fraternity. Furthermore, interest groups have been banned for years and are not officially recognized anywhere by any fraternity on any undergraduate campus. They are often considered groupies/freaks/hoes of the frat to which they are "sweet" on. Now I've been out of undergrad almost 10 years, but I can tell you from my experience that joining a sweetheart group is the last thing you want to do before you join a sorority. It may be different on your campus but I doubt it. To stretch your mind beyond hazing, stepping,parties, paraphernelia..to get an idea of what Black Greek life is supposed to be about, may I suggest you read The Divine Nine: The History of African-American Fraternities and Sororities in America by Lawrence Ross. Then if you are interested in joining the largest and most outstanding sorority, pick up In Search of Sisterhood: Delta Sigma Theta and the Challenge of the Black Sorority Movement by Paula Giddings

It...African-American fraternity and sorority life.... IS serious whether you realize or care about it or not. If you chose to read about it, you would understand this but as you said you do not have to read. Why am I explaining myself to you? Because you appear to be  about certain aspects of the African-American collegiate experience. You spoke in jest of some very serious things and that is a
