Hurricane Isabel - Day 4 no power

I live in Va Beach, VA and we are on day 4 with no power after Hurricane Isabel. I am at work writing this. Ironically my office didn't seem to have lost ANY power.

We got lucky in terms of no injury, no flood or property damage. It's very crazy to drive around town and all the tree damage and all the power out everywhere. Power is slowly coming back now but we are on the 'several days' list for power restoration.

Ice is the most sought after commodity, people are calling into radio stations with info on where ppl have been finding it. It's so crazy!!! It's hot like summer here!!

Yahtzee by candlelight is the main form of entertainment in our household. At least it's been nice during the day and we have been hanging outside most of the time which is good for my 3 1/2 year old.

I am very thankful for everything that I have.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! We aren't doing bad.
We have good running water, just no hot water.
Just irritating without the power, we have to keep stuff in coolers, then find ice every day to keep it cool. Then figure out what to eat, do we spend more on fast food? what to buy that will keep more than 1 day?. Everything from the fridge went bad except for like ketchup, etc. We are about done with all the snack food stuff we bought for the storm itself.

I am really not complaining, it could be a lot worse.
It's just all very tripped out!!! It's like going back to the 'old days' in a way- pioneer days. I am really not complaining about not having tv or internet or any of that. (ok so i am on here at work so what) lol

Best part of all of this was the view of the stars in the sky due to no city lights anywhere!!! It was so beautiful!
And it's been so peaceful at night (except for the one neighbor behind us with the generator running 24/7 but nevermind that) lol

This is what it was like during the 2003 blackout...it was really kind of enjoyable in a way...getting to know your neighbors better...enjoying the quiet...if it wasn't so friggin' hot out that weekend it would have been really wonderful, imo...but, I like camping... shrug

Yes, the getting to know the neighbors is one thing I have also liked. People are just hanging outside until dark every night in our court.

I said to my mom it's been like camping in a cabin but without any supplies! LOL

SensualMelody

Hi...I went through this with Hurricane Fredrick.
Certainly gave me some time to meditate on what's important.

One silly thing we did...we kept checking the freezer (chest type)...and the ice was solid...
so it seemed.

A week later, we baegan to detect an odor...but checking the freezer stuff was frozen solid
on top layer!

Food on underlayers was spoiling!!! ewww!

Soulsistah...it must not be too hot there. We suffered without air conditioning for some days!

So...how's everybody doing? smile
