The effects of a republican government in full swing.

Isn't all that wealth supposed to trickle down? Funny that.

The problem is that those who are in the pit might look up and see that trickle but there happens to be a pane of glass at the opening to catch those drips that would be nothing but waste if allowed to flow to the bottom.

I agree.

I hope te finger's not for me. I agree with you guys.

The whole bullshit idea that you help the rich get richer and in turn that will benefit everyone (from the trickle down effect) is the greatest myth ever told.

I agree it's a bitch, and I hope this country goes out and votes that brain stem out of office in a year.

Then again, it'll be greed that's going to turn the economy around.

Just needs a healthy balance, instead of the current see-saw effect.

It's just sad to see people who want to work and can't find anything but a mcdonald's job to feed a family of four. Then you find this stiff(wall street ceo) who worked for a non-profit company that had to turn down his 48 million dollar bonus because he had already made 200 million dollars disbelief

it is pretty sad. and infuriating when you hear about situations like the NYSE guy.

my dad's been out of work for a year now, with no real prospects. he got fired ... no, they "eliminated his position" (and then either sold or shut down the place 2 months later) after working there for 30 years, and being the general manager for 25 years, keeping the whole place afloat for a board of directors who just fired him anyway.

that's why i've not been inclined to look for a career-type job in the last year and a half since graduating from college. i know that there's nothing out there in my field at the moment, and even though i'd be entry level and cheap, i've got no work experience in the field. so it's pointless to look. i've stuck with the seasonal-turned-year-round job that i've had since i was 13. it sucks, but i know the job and i'm comfortable there, and it's secure pay and employment, so i'm rather afraid to leave it. but i'm moving in 2 and a half weeks, and will begin the job search for a career. it seems pretty frightening, in light of the fact that they keep saying the economy is getting better, but the number of jobs being eliminated is climing by the day.

Gordon Gekko: Well, I appreciate the opportunity you're giving me, Mr. Cromwell, as the single largest shareholder in Teldar Paper, to speak.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, we're not here to indulge in fantasy but in political and economic reality. America -- America has become a second rate power. Its trade deficit and its fiscal deficit are at nightmare proportions. Now in the days of the free market when our country was a top industrial power, there was accountability to the stockholder. The Carnegies, the Mellons, the men that built this great industrial empire, made sure of it because it was their money at stake. Today, management has no stake in the company! All together, these men sitting up here [Teldar management and executives] own less than 3 percent of the company. And where does Mr. Cromwell put his million dollar special? Not in Teldar stock; he owns less than 1 percent. You own the company. That's right, you the stockholder, and you are all being royally screwed over by these, these bureaucrats, with their, their steak luncheons, their hunting and fishing trips, their, their corporate jets and golden parachutes.

Cromwell: This is an outrage! You're out of line, Gekko!

Gekko: Teldar Paper, Mr. Cromwell, Teldar Paper has 33 different vice presidents, each earning over 200 thousand dollars a year. Now, I have spent the last two months analyzing what all these guys do, and I still can't figure it out. One thing I do know is that our paper company lost 110 million dollars last year, and I'll bet that half of that was spent in all the paperwork going back and forth between all these vice presidents! The new law of evolution in corporate America seems to be 'survival of the unfittest.' Well in my book you either do it right or you get eliminated. In the last seven deals that I've been involved with, there were 2.5 million stockholders who have made a pretax profit of 12 billion dollars. Thank you. I am not a destroyer of companies! I am a liberator of them!

The point is, ladies and gentleman, is that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind. And Greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Teldar Paper but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

Thank you very much.
"Climb in my fur."
