Defrag is buggy. It can stay on a low percentage for ages and them suddenly jump up to 100% smile That's why I prefer Norton's Speeddisk utility.

Also, if your disk is very full it will obviously take a lot longer to defrag.

You probably have one or more programs running which causes defrag to start over again and again...and again..

Kelley, you are so not a dumbazz, girl.

Just make sure EVERY open program is closed otherwise it will keep restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and restarting and and...

You beat me to it smile

All disk-activity needs to ceased in order to be able to execute the
defragmentating procedure.

That can be really tricky, especially when defragmentating the drive where
the operating system is located. Try shutting down all applications running,
and do not forget to close all system tray utilities.

I think the problem is that it defragged you whilst you were asleep.

Do you feel any different today?

All that stuff installed in your system tray maybe?

I still say it's probably SpyWare.

i wondered about that...back in the day i recall our techgeeks always telling us not to defrag..that it causes more problems then solves.

Well my PC runs a lot faster after I do a defrag with SpeedDisk. It makes a huge difference. Although SpeedDisk is a bit smarter in the way it moves stuff around, compared to Defrag, so you end up with shorter seek times for commonly accessed files etc, virtual memory etc.
