If they're an asshole to boot, it's easy to give the brush.

If they're nice, I try not to give out the wrong signals, but I also try to be friendly and engage in conversation for a while. There's no reason to treat someone like crap just because you don't happen to be attracted to them and they've taken the initiative to talk to you. And anyways, who knows, the person could become your next good friend.
