A SONG 4 ALL 2 REFLECT WITH 2DAY

Yeah, it's a post on 9/11 - but I didnt deem what I wanted 2 put across as anthing intrinsically political. So any responses should be personally reflective I guess. The GD forum seemed the best place 4 this.
MY friend lost his partner in the attack - He was on the 2nd plane that hit, and another friend was working 4 Reuters in one of the towers, and had (thank GOD) left New York a few hours previously. By the time she had returned 2 London, and grabbed about 2 hours sleep - the phone was ringing off the hook...as u can imagine, that took her some getting over.
Anyway - I've said way more than I wanted 2 already, the song says everything 4 us 2day all I think...
If u need a good cry - this will do it 4 u.
Thanx,
'nana

WHY CAN'T I FALL IN LOVE (4:01)
Performed by Ivan Neville

So many people
Come walking by
Looking so happy
Well all I do is cry
I just wanna be
With somebody too
What would I give for a kiss?
What have I gotta do?

Why can't I fall in love?
Why must it?...It seems so hard to find
Why can't I fall in love?

I know she's out there waiting
So I, why can't I fall in love

Oh oh

Hey now I see
It's always been me
I thought I was deaf
In my misery
It's time to get real
And change where I'm at
But the same old questions
Keep following me back

Why can't I fall in love
I know she's out there waiting
It's time to fall
In looove

And let her know [and let her know]
Just how I feel [just how I feel]
Give it up or give it all
Something tells me
This can't be real

Hey

[guitar solo]

I know she's out there waiting
It's time, it's time
Why can't I fall in love

Why must it...It seems so hard, so hard to find
Why can't I fall in love

Hey

I know she's out there waiting
It's time, [it's time] it's time
Why can't I fall in love
[Why can't I fall in love]

Why must it...it seems so hard, hard, hard, hard to find
[Why can't I fall in love]

I know she's out there waiting
So I, why can't I fall in love

EVERYBODY KNOWS

By Leonard Cohen
Performed by Concrete Blonde

Everybody knows the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost

Everybody knows the fight is fixed
The poor stay poor
And the rich get rich
That's how it goes

Everybody knows the boat is sinking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody's got this broken feeling
Like their mama or their dog just died

Everybody's hands are in their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows
Everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

[guitar solo]

Everybody knows
Everybody knows
That's the way it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows it's him or you
Everybody knows that you're here forever
When you've had a line or two

Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows

Everybody knows you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Give or take a night or two

Everybody knows you've been discrete
So many people you had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows
Everybody knows
That's the way it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows
Everybody knows
That's how it goes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows
Everybody knows
That's how it goes
And everybody knows

[Ahhh]

U2
Walk On

And love...
It's not the easy thing
The only baggage
That you can bring
Not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
Before the second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on
Walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it

Walk on
Walk on
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed
To be seen

You could have flown away
A singing bird
In an open cage
Who will only fly
Only fly for freedom

Walk on
Walk on
What you got
You can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it

Walk on
Walk on
You stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
You can only take so much

Walk on
Walk on

Home
Hard to know what it is
If you never had one

Home
I can't say where it is
But I know I'm going

Home
That's where the heart is

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break

All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind

All that you reason
All that you care

It's only time
And I'll never fill up all my mind

All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress up
And all that you see

All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate...

Garth Brooks The Dance

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

Anxiety

Not a lot to say about tomorrow. Giving it too much of my time and energy gives the negative forces behind the tragedy too much power, so the best way I can think of to commemmorate the lives lost and the damage done is to carry on with life, since I'm lucky enough to still be alive.

As former New Yorker, I had only been living in Chicago for a few months when 9/11 happened, and I was still having trouble adjusting to life in the Midwest and hadn't completely disconnected from my life in New York - when 9/11 happened, it tore me apart - I felt helpless - all my friends were out there - for Christ's sake, I used to WORK in the financial district - chances are overwhelming that if I had stayed in NYC, I'd be in a subway car under the WTC when it happened...

...but the fact is, I wasn't. I was in Chicago. And all my friends in NYC are fine. Only one of my friends came even barely close to the chaos, and she didn't get hurt at all.

While I know far too many people have a reason to mourn tomorrow, I am lucky. I can celebrate the fact that everyone around me survived. I can celebrate the fact that New York pulled together afterwards, and I'm so proud of everyone I know out there for their bravery and perserverance.

Like I said - I feel if I am anything but positive tomorrow, I give the terror too much power. I have the luxury to do so. I send warm vibes out to those who, as fate might have had it, do not have that luxury.

Tears For Fears - Memories Fade

There's only need
I love your need
So much I'm losing me
I cannot see the reason for the Pain
With hungry joy
I'll be your toy
Just hoping you will play
Without hope my body starts to fail

Memories fade but the scars still linger
Goodbye my friend
Will I ever love again
Memories fade but the scars still linger

I cannot grow
I cannot move
I cannot fell my age
The vice like grip of tension holds me fast
Engulfed by you
What can I do
When History's my cage
Look foward to a future in the past

The more I talk
The more I say
The less you seem to hear
I'm speechless in a most peculiar way
Your mind is weak
Your need is great
And nothing is too dear
For you to use to take the Pain away
Memories Fade
No don't pretend you can justify the end
Memories fade but the scars still linger
