?question for ppl in NYC area

hello all. i'm considering relocating from D.C. to take a job in NYC but i wouldn't know where to start about where to live, i'm considering brooklyn, or the bronx cause they seem to be the cheapest but i'm not exactly sure what those cheaper prices may mean. can anyone in the NYC area give me some help about what areas in NYC are the best?

How much are you looking to spend per month?

You can get many nice one-bedroom apartments in the Bronx for around $800. Brooklyn is getting more expensive these days, but they have some descent spots too. I can only speak about the Bronx cuz I live here. You can get apartments in Manhattan for $1200 if you like, but they'll be smaller and maybe not as nice.

How far do you need to be from Manhattan? How much Travel time?

Check this out.

I recommend Brooklyn. Park Slope. Carol Gardens. Quick ride to Downtown/Midtown.

Ask as much as you want. I'm happy to help.

You should avoid the South Bronx, and much of the East. Look around on the West side from 225th and 242nd street, between Riverdale and Sedgwick Ave. There you'll find a lot of great places and it's near the subway and stores. You can also check between Sedgwick and Webster Ave if you find nothing there.

Let me know if you need any more specifics.

Yeah, some parts aren't bad. Again, stay on the west side, like West of Broadway. You won't find much for cheap though.

Just keep your eyes to yourself, your money tight where you can feel it and dont walk the streets too late at night and you should be fine!!!

The further uptown you go, the cheaper the price.

The Bronx is wack (no offense, fellow Boggie-Downers). But if you want, you could check out Parkchester or Co-op City. Harlem (my area) is getting kinda corny too. But hey, if Bill Clinton works there, then it's cool, I guess. I would recommend Greenwich Village or Williamsburg if you're into the arts or entertainment. But it is pretty costly, so shop around first.

The Bronx ain't wack from where I see it.

But if you want, you could check out Parkchester

If you wanna get shanked.

or Co-op City

If you wanna commit suicide from living in a cold, soul-less, industrial wasteland.

Harlem (my area) is getting kinda corny too. But hey, if Bill Clinton works there, then it's cool, I guess.

Bill Clinton is a good exaple of why not to live there. He'll spread poison throughout the land.

I would recommend Greenwich Village or Williamsburg if you're into the arts or entertainment. But it is pretty costly, so shop around first.

Yeah, unless Bill Gates is your uncle, don't even consider Greenwich Village. Williamsburg is a little cheaper. Some apartments run between $900 and $1000, but their not that big.

I might go to NYC for a short holiday, maybe a shopping trip before Xmas. My missus has never been to the US before, and I've never been to NYC before. It'll be fun checking out all the places from Woody Allen and Spike Lee movies smile

It's a very depressing place. A friend of mine lived there. The apartments themselves are okay, but you'll hate the area after 2 minutes. Trust me, if you do look into the Bronx, stay on the far West. There are some beautiful neighborhoods around here.
