The effects.... We have all heard people say,in some kind of variation, that it dosent matter how you were raised. At some point and time you need to drop all of that and make decisions based upon being an adult and stop blaming your parents. Now even though I feel this way myself, there are certain things instilled in you that are negative, learned in some way or another from a parents behavior. What are your thoughts on this matter? Is there even that little something still inside that effects your life today?

Moderator | Parents are a child's first teachers. It is very hard to step out of the negative thinking they might instill, but it is possible. Still I think it is always there, a voice ringing in your ears. It's just something we all have to deal with. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

There's a poem by Philip Larkin called "This Be the Verse." Like to hear it? Here it goes:
They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another's throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don't have any kids yourself.

My motto is that once a person is aware of something, they have the power to change it. There are some behaviors and tendencies which are so deeply ingrained that I will always struggle with them. But I'm aware of them and work towards improvement.
One of my favorite sayings is, "It's never too late for a happy childhood". Seems dorky, but it's true (in my opinion).
